OK, I know I should probably get it checked out, but I hate going to the doctor, I mean seriously hate going and have to be dragged there kicking and screaming.
I have got a lot of freckles and small moles, and I've got one just above my shoulder that's started being irritating. It's not bleeding but it has gone red and it looks like there is blood underneath it. (Sorry, it is a bit gross). And a new one has appeared beside it. At least I think it's new, I've not noticed it before but I don't usually take much notice of them. It's in an area where I often get sunburnt.
Am I right in thinking that you don't have to worry about them unless they change into an irregular shape, or start bleeding? Am I just being a hypochondriac?

I think it would be wise to have it checked out. I think in earily stages skin cancer is easy to treat.

I agree with TheMachine1 - you should definitely get it checked.

Is there anyone who could come to the doctor with you?
Is it worth explaining that you are nervous and that you will need the doctor to be sympathetic to this (this is what I have to explain whenever I visit my doctors surgery - and they are generally fine about it and they are understanding. They even 'unofficially' recommed which nurse or doctor I book an appointment with as they know that some are nicer than others!).
Well, just an idea.

Good luck.

God, I've just been reading up about skin cancer online and it says :-

Quote:
The presence of moles will not cause you serious problems. But large numbers, more than 25, are an indication of susceptibility to melanoma. So you should take great care about exposure to sunlight.

I've got lots more than 25! And I've had that area sunburned a lot of times, I always forget to put sunscreen on the back of my neck. I will have to get it checked, and ASAP I think.

Hubs said he'll come with me, so I'm not so worried about actually going there now, anyway. :)

that's true. Australia is likely the skin cancer capital of the world. Changes in the appearance or increase in size of a mole should be checked out.

Don't waste time, you'll only worry about it and if it is melanoma, its easy to get rid of if you get it early.

I'm going tomorrow. You wouldn't believe how difficult it can be to get a doc's appointment here (or maybe it's just my crappy doctors' practice). I'm worried, but at least I'm doing something about it, in case it is melanoma.

Whatever this mole turns out to be, maybe nothing, but a warning folks ~ don't ever forget the sunblock, OK?

Starr luv, get to the doc ~! !! I've had an ongoing problem with skin cancer for years. I've been told I got sunburned a lot as a lad. Changes in moles is quite serious, as are small red 'pimples' that don't go away.

Oh Proffy, are you OK? Are the docs looking after you?

I got sunburned a lot as a kid too. I remember long summer days on the beach and no-one ever used sunscreens/blocks then, did they? People didn't realize then the damage the sun can do to skin and eyes. (I read that it can cause cataracts too)

I will post how I get on when I see the doc.

Doc said it doesn't look like anything to worry about but he's going to send me to have it looked at by the skin specialist. He said they'll probably remove it to be on the safe side. :)
