There are times when I don't even feel like wanting to be at or come down to my local town where I work. I seem to think the town isn't what it used to be. I see shops that were around for years closing down and being left boarded up. I work in a shopping centre where the upstairs area used to have a cafe and other shops have all gone. I just wish even on dreary days the town I work has more to offer. I remember looking forward to visiting town as a kid and it was more busy and thriving than it is now. I remember a couple of weeks ago visiting the Chatham dockyard and seeing black and white photos from when it was in operation until the 1980s and people like my grandads did their apprenticeships there as shipwrights and carpenters. Seeing all of that shows how much the work ethic has changed. I wonder if it's because there are more choices of jobs for people now than there were 60 years ago and won't always jobs that are too much hard work and want an easy life without working hard for it.
