I have an online friend that I have chatted with for 16 years now. They have been going through mental health issues for years, which only got worse during covid.

Last Monday night was the last time that I spoke with my friend. Tuesday morning they were nowhere to be found. No replies to email either.

My friend has been ready to go to a psych ward for some time now. But I could never get them to go due to their mental state. I am hoping that they broke down and went to a psych ward. There is also an issue with their eating disorder. My friend is quite obese. Which is a concern, that they had health issues which are keeping them offline now.

Either way. I went from having a friend to chat with every day, to silence. And one friend to chat with on the weekends.

My friend was my support as much as I was theirs. So I am missing my best friend, and a daily routine all in one shot.

I am still recovering from PTSD with dissociation. And vitamin deficiencies. I have been dissociating more the longer my friend is offline. I can't sleep. I don't want to do much of anything.

I am not sure how to function without my friend. I miss them so much it hurts.

That sounds terrible! Has this happened before?? Feel free to keep me updated as much as you want until you hear from them again.

No, not quite like this. My friend has went to the psych ward before. But I always knew when they went because they told me they were going. This time I had no warning that they might go anywhere. Just wasn't there the next day, and hasn't been on since.

They were in very bad shape mentally, but they would never allow me to call them a ride to a psych ward.

They live alone. Are probably autistic like myself.

I can only hope they went to a psych ward on their own. And simply didn't have time to message me about it.

I am out of the world worried. I am not functioning well without my friend. I am suppose to take care of myself. But I can't do that while this stressed about my friend.

I am going to be a mess until I hear from them again. Which I hope, is very soon.

How long do they usually stay in the psych ward?

Can you call to see if they're in there?

Is there someone else you can contact to check in on them?

They usually stay around 10 days. Though the last time they went, they went to a different psych ward and was there for 22 days.

No, I have no idea what psych ward, or hospital they went to. I have no ability to just call the nearby ones in their area to try to locate them.

No, again. My friend has a cousin who lives nearby, but I have never had their phone number.

So, yeah. I have no way of knowing anything, unless my friend contacts me.

I could have up to 2 more weeks until I might hear from them. That is, if they went in last Tuesday. Like I am hoping happened.

If only I knew if they made it to a psych ward or not, would save me a lot of worry. As it is now, I am a mess, and only getting worse.

Ohno RoadRatt, I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this again. I really hope your friend made it to the psych ward and is okay. They made it back home last time. Hopefully they will be okay again this time. Sending you all the positive outcome vibes possible.

Please, please remember to take care of yourself. I know it's hard when you're worried, but it's important. Please drink water so you don't end up dehydrated again. Don't forget to eat or sleep. Your friend would want you to take care of yourself and we do too.

Also, since this has happened at least two times and clearly upsets you: would it be possible to ask your friend for their cousin's contact info? So you can ask them to check in the future? When your friend gets back.

Thanks for the concern. My friend got home late last night. Contacted me this morning.

It turns out that they did make it to a psych ward. Thankfully only spending a few days this time.

I will see about getting their cousin's phone number. Just in case anything ever happens again.

Thanks again. :)

That sounds like a very good plan - you should have more than just email. Also don't forget about the chat app when skype goes down. Just in case you forgot. I used to use it but now I have PTSD from it and I no longer instant message with anybody and I want it that way; but from what I remember, they didn't not require a cell phone (back then, anyway)

Hey there exec. Didn't know you had made it to Wrong Planet. :P

I do have an instant messenger app now.

Thanks, everyone.

It was hell. But you know how it is being autistic and anything comes up to stress us. Lol.

I am feeling better today. Should continue to do so.

I am going to have my friend call me on the phone tomorrow. Yay. :D

It is good to hear that your friend is back into contact with you and that you are less worried now, RoadRatt. :)
