Now I'm having another depressive sort of episode... the terror of the black container in my head that threatens to trap me! This is my 4th day back on the Celexa, after 2 1/2 days off it, and it's suddenly not working so good anymore! What's happening? Will I have to wait another 4 weeks for it to get back in? I know that's probably stupid... it doesn't SEEM to make sense...

I doubt it will take 4 weeks. You need to start taking 6 grams daily of fish oil to.

Fish oil? What's that do?

I don't see my shrink again till Sept. 11!

I was confused like this before I started taking chemicals... it went awayu when I was taking them, and now I'm still taking them and it's back! Maybe it's because a few times I took more than I was prescribed, then I took less than I was because all I had left that day was half a pill, then for the next two days I had none... then I went back on them and this is my 4th day back on them... at the prescribed dose... my doctor knows about all this and just says continue to take the stuff as prescribed... but he isn't aware of the relapse, so no, he doesn't know it all. :)

You can buy fish oil over the counter. Short answer is there is alot evidence showing low omega-3 fatty acids levels related to various disorders. And there is growing evidence suggesting supplementing omega-3 will provide treatment benefits for those disorders.

Its something that takes 2-3 months before you see the benefits. The mechanism is partly changing brain cell membrane fatty acid ratios to make the membranes more fluid permitting transport proteins to not be distorted and hence work correctly. To change those fatty acid rations will take a few months of supplementation.
3-6 gram daily is a good dose. Taken in divided doses with food will help prevent fishy burps.

What I remember reading about fish oils is that you should look for a supplement that is labeled as "cholesterol free", because these fish oils might have less mercury. I don't know for sure, though, but there are a lot of different brands.

Did a doctor suggest fish oils to you?

No I just read it suggested alot and studied it. I been using it for 14 months . Doctors(AHA)recommend getting about 1-1.5 grams daily in food for cardiovascular benefits.

Most omega-3 rich fish oil has cholesterol. Oil can be vacuum distilled to remove most the mercury. I think that might be a fairly common procedure now to reduce the offensive fishy odors.

Another source if you eat alot eggs is omega-3 rich eggs. Chickens feeds flax (or free range eating alot of insects) produce omega-3 rich eggs. Most stores now stock the omega-3 enriched eggs.

Flax and walnuts are other sources one can try if you have concern for using animal products or mercury. Though the amounts needed might be rather high.

What about just eating a lot of fish? Buying halibut steaks, and slurping down the fat? Or, do the capsules concentrate what you need into an effective dose somehow?

Again, excessive mercury might be a depressing thought, though.
