Tomorrow afternoon I go back there to pick up the letter telling Social Services to find me an apartment, and I'll then go straight there to tell them... but it will probably take 4 weeks (at the most) to finally get one! I'll also ask the social worker for forms to apply for AISH (ALberta disability benefits... about $1000 Canadian a month). My shrink said that an extreme social anxiety disorder like I have means I'm eligible! I'm so happy!

That's great. :D

I didn't know that could be done in Canada. :o It certainly can't be done in America.

double edged sword....

the good, you're getting some money out of them, even though it's Canadian 'funny money' LOL

Bad news, you're labeled now for all time! That's a heck of a stigma, can you handle it??

Nobody needs to know. :) I'm a very interesting person... My shrink thinks I have (and I'll probably get diagnosed with):

1) Sensory Processing Disorder
2) Major Depressive Disorder
3) Social Phobia, or Social Anxiety Disorder
4) Pervasive Developmental Disorder

He says that's quite a collection of diagnoses for one person! :D

I'd rather have a label and a house than homeless.

Very very true!! !

I'll trade you my job I'm holding onto by a thread for that much $$$, but I make over twice that much each month. Just hope I can keep the job longer!!

I'd take a label, with a paycheck!!

You can, once you become a Canadian citizen! Dunno how long that'll take though. :(

Ana, I don't know if you're interested but since you live in Alberta - have you heard of Athabasca University? You can do your entire degree and even Masters online - and since you're in Alberta, the gov't would subsidize if you're full time (4 courses, I think). I attend Athabasca but only as and when I can afford it - I'm in Montreal so I pay the whole thing. Athabasca is accredited the same as McGill or UBC.

Claradoon, I used to live in Montreal... I moved here from Montreal on May 25! :)

Where in Montreal do you live? I lived in Lachine and Dorval.

Thanks for the link; as I said elsewhere I'm not the type to concentrate on one thing for 4 years, I plan to just take a bunch of courses that I want to take at local colleges. But some of the others who might come up here might be interested! :D

I've lived in Montreal for all my life, except for a year in Nova Scotia. I lived near Place des Arts and then near the Forum. That was my favourite apartment. How did you get to travel so much? I'm jealous.

We just kept moving because we were poor and wanted decent jobs! A lot of it was field trips too, and I was at a few summer camps. I've lived in Montreal (Quebec), Brockville (Ontario) and Edmonton (Alberta).

More news! They didn't have the letter still when I went in at about 1:30 this afternoon, so I'm going back tomorrow morning-- they'll have it by then, I'm sure, since my shrink said I should come to get it today in the afternoon!

And good news: I talked to a very nice caseworker at the YMCA and she said that she'd tell her boss to give me the first vacant room that comes available! So me and my mother will be out of each other's hair! :D
