bad day in the land of the Oargles
It shouldn't probably be that bad, but im having a lot of dificulty controling verbal outbursts today. I call them Oargles -- short supressed sounds of a nature that make people trn their heads. I do it mostly when Im excited in a happy or sad fashion.
im at schol now, my last semester here (transfering to a diferent university) and I haveto conduct all of this official business to let the schol know I will not be coming back.
but everyone is giving me an attitude and I have no idea why. I went to one office to try to make an appointment for an "exit interview" and:
Me: GOod morning, I need to make an appointment for an exit interview, I will not be attending in Spring of 2008.
Her: Okay, do you know your counselor?
Me: Nope, sorry. MAjor is psychology (note: ive had four different counselors in the past three years)
Her: Do you know your id?
Me: Nope (they stopped using our SSN's about a week ago, I was never notified what my new ID was)
Her: Are you ok?
Me: (a brief pause) Yes.
Her: Are you sure?
Me: (I couldn't think of *anything* else she could possibly be talking about) well I only have an hour before my next class.
Her: (tone suddenly harsh instead of caring) Whoah whoah, lets take a step back here and remember that its me trying to help you, not the other way around. And if you don't know your ID then it could take a while.
Me: (my hands are up at chest height, palms out) I am in, no way, acting aggressive.
She walked away and I soon finished my business in that office.
I went into another, the honors program office:
Me: Good morning. Im here to conduct an exit interview--
Her: HEre? Why are you here?
Me: Academic Counseling sent me here--
Her: Why?
Me: Something to do with scholarships and money.
HEr: This isn't the fnancial aid office
Me: From the honors program.
Her: Oh, you are an honors student?
Me: Yes.
Her: Do you even participate?
Me: (brief pause) Yes.
HEr: What's your name?
Me: Thomas Nem--?
Her: What is your last name?
Me: (i tell her)
Her: Have you done anything with thehonors program?
Me: What do you mean?
Her: TUtorial, thesis?
Me: No.
Her: How are you even in this program if you've never done that?
Me: this is my third year.
HEr: Oh.. You said this was your last semester, that means you are about to graduate.
Me: (Brief pause) Well I apologize for the miscommunication.
Her: Someone has an attitude today, don't they?
Me: I call it a personality disorder.
Shortly after that everything was handled. but I have no idea where either of their attitudes were coming from. I really don't think I did anything to instigate a negative response -- I just wanted to withdraw for christ's sake.
The only thing I can think of is that my voice was much more mellow than usual, but that was because I was nervous. I thought people appreciated it when other people remained calm and composed.
I just want to go home and hide in my bed, but I have 2 more classes today and two research papers that need to be started when I get home. at least ill be home Q.Q

In both situations, it seems to me that some key details were left out of the conversation. We all do it from time to time; we assume that the other party knows more than they actually do.
In the first situation, you didn't explain a) why you didn't know your counselor's name, or b) why you don't know your PIN. In the second situation, you didn't explain that you were in your third year, and transferring out of the program.
But in both situations, it would seem that the people you were speaking to just had snotty attitudes, and there's (unfortunately) nothing you can do to fix that.
Well considering it's their department I would hope they'd be keen to know about the restructuring that occurs every 8 months. Imagine coming home every 8 months and finding your kitchen in a different spot? You'd know
Lol
I don't know I typically go into too much detail when I explain things to people, so All I was trying to do is tell them what they need to know on their end. My guess is that they didn't want to hear any complaining on my part about how they switched over the student id system and I've never had the same counselor twice in a row or about how the honors program is a crock of sh*t
But in any event. I'm home. Bless my bed ^_^
