I have to travel only 40 miles away.
It may as well be to Egypt for all the overthinking I'm putting into it.
If I want to attend this lecture seminar-I have to go.

I don't often leave my 5 mile grid, I would, but I come into this problem ALOT.

I know the roads there and most all the side roads by instinct-do it's not a 'too young or mentally immature to travel issue'
The adults in my home growing up travelled them hundreds of times to and from and sometimes a couple or few commutes in a day. I know most my state and a few others this way.

I'm a long way from childhood, but-I can't find a place in my mind where this is fun or bearable. I just bear it. The scenes are not *new*. They are memories of the past.

I want to see things with my own eyes.

I had to laugh at your mention of faraway Egypt, because if I drive a few miles from my house, I'm in Egypt. I've done it a few times and it's lovely.

My secret to enjoy a trip (or suffer as little as possible) is to plan it so exhaustively that only minimal stuff is out of my control and choosing. I plan it so much that it'd shock anyone who knew, but nobody needs to know. I go over the way directions a lot, make big, clear, colorful notes for when I'm driving, choose beforehand (from the internet) a nice, cozy place to have a cup of tea, bring along some good reading, research and schedule some site I like along the way, etc.
