I need to vent about this. A few weeks ago, a stray cat started hanging around my neighborhood. Most of the strays around here are fixed, thanks to Operation Catnip. But this one apparently isn't. My cat, who is an indoors cat, had been going nuts lately, yowling and pacing from the front door to the back door. Then I started noticing the smell of cat urine. I realized that this stray cat has liberally sprayed both my front door and my back door. Ive scrubbed, and sprayed some special spray that's supposed to get rid of the smell, but I can still smell it, and my cat is driving me crazy, with her behavior, cause she's upset. She's even waking me like every two hours, carrying on about this cat.

I'm nearly in tears from frustration! :(

it's oil based. vinegar and hot water, followed by a wipe with one of those bleach wipes helps, helps a great deal.

i've got a similar situation going, and have for several years. "Whizzer" climbs the steps to my front door (we're second floor) then proceeds to spray my iron security door and, by default, my front door inside it. if not daily, every other day.

eventually whizzer is going to stand in the parking lot one day while i'm backing my car out of the parking space just a little too fast....

The stuff I used is called Nature's Miracle. It's supposed to be effective on pet urine stains and odors. I have scrubbed around the door with Borax, which is also supposed to be good for urine smells, and then saturated the door and surrounding areas with this spray. The thing is, how to keep the little bastard from re-anointing my door! I love cats. Just not their urine. I feel positively jinxed, right now.

BTW, thanks, Nan and lotusblossom. I'll have to put some Citronella candles outside the doors, or something.

Normally I use a bleach & water solution...but if you have anything that could discolor you may want to be careful.

It seems like I always get one neighborhood offender that has to mark the perimeter of my porch every now and then.

Citronella repels everything- flies, mosquitoes, fleas, dogs and cats, its available from chemists, healthfood shops and pet shops. The stray cat will probably still come back though as he is after your cat- you might have to get her neutered- its funny that people say cats have AS as their dating is so NOT aspie.

Well, I'll be trying the citronella and will let you know if it works. Nothing else has kept the little bastard off my porch. We'd considered leaving a little food present out there, but there are other neighborbood cats that are nice little animals that we wouldn't want anything to happen to....

PS We've tried Nature's Miracle and about every other product on the market, including the expensive pheremones stuff. Our cats are neutered and spayed, and very old. So he's not coming for his love life. He's just a little butthole.

My cat is spayed, so I can't understand why this cat is after her. I spoke to my neighbors, and they are going to trap this cat and have him neutered, like all the other strays here.

It's most likely just a territory thing. Not a "wanna mate with your cat" thing. If the male cat is very old, even neutering him may not stop the spraying at this point. If he's young enough, there's a chance it'd work.

A bucket with water sometimes does the trick. Looks nasty, but than would rain also be nasty...
