Yesterday my 4 years old daughter decided to give our terrapin some tuna from a tin with oil...
Not very clever!! I noticed this morning, that Mineko (my terrapin) was white!
I was very converned so i put her in the sink. It turned out to be grease. Very hard to wash off, but Mineko is fine.

After, i decide to clean the tank, as it was very greasy, i put it in bath to wash it.. And it broke! OF COURSE! I knew it was going to break... But i still did it!

I've got no money on my account, and i need to buy some important stuff during the next few weeks. What am i going to do????
I am very angry, it was a silly thing to do...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

My hubby is going to come home in 2 hours. he doesnt like much mineko as it is an expensive pet (well i dont think so. It is true that i have to change tank often as she is growing fast, and i want to give her fresh fish... but, other than that, she is not expensive, and she is very quiet!! !)
So i guess he will tell me "get rid of it" as he always does...

Don't get rid of it. You live in a joint world, and you are not in the wrong having a pet. It isn't his choice.

Maybe you can get it some temporary accomodation until you can afford a new tank?

yes, or isn't it glueable? maybe that wouldn't be healthy for the terrapin.

For the moment her temporary accomodation will be the bath, but if i take a bath it will a plastic box...

I put an ad on freecycle asking for one... but i can dream on having one for free...

my husband came home, and i told him. He said that it is bad, and that we have to buy a new one...
I didnt mention getting rid of my mineko!!
Maybe he s starting to like her?

Oh no! But accidents to happen. Agree: Don't give up on your beautiful terrapin.

Unsure where you're from (Europe?) but could likely afford one of those BIG RubberMaid clear plastic bins - they come with a lid. They're really sturdy too. Wherever you're from they should have the equivalent. Cheap, and handy.

Hope mineko is ok.

Mineko is fine, a bit greasy...
I live in the uk (but i am french)
You know what i think you've got an excellent idea, it is very cheap, and we can find some big and funny one. At least i wont be concerned about breaking it again!!
Also, i love boxes, plastic bins (when i got married, my hubby wanted to buy our first stuff together and asked me what we sould buy, my answer "PLASTIC BOXES!! !" )

You are from Alaska, waow, that is my kind of country, i dont like sun. and hot weather. Too bad for me as we are planning to live in africa in 5 years...

Hi to Mineko and I hope he adjust to his new place!

I love Alaska and I'm from the Interior. No terrapins here :D

And, yes, what would we do without RubberMaid containers, which come in all sizes?

I think Africa sounds wonderful and exotic - enjoy (despite the hot weather). Then maybe Mineko can have an outdoors living quarter too!

Hi LabPet,

I bought a pink box!
I treat Mineko as a girl (i gave a female name, for mineko iwasaki who was a geisha)
But i dont know yet if she is a girl or not, as she is only 2 years old.
We will find out in 3 years i think, when she will be an adult.
But as i treat as a girl, and it it turns out she is a male, what is going to happen?

In Africa, we are planning to have swimming pool, big garden etc.. I just want a living room for me, where i can have my own little world. I love plastic furniture, but my hubby is not too keen, so i have to wait until we have our house, and 2 living rooms!

There, my little Mineko will be happy, we can built a pond for her, and maybe have a little friend?

We'll need to have air con everywhere.

I just watch the video about you on youtube! Then i followed the link from the woman who did the video, and her website is very intersting.
Enjoy Alaska!! !

ghouna - Thanks for watching the video; smelena and I had fun creating.

About weather Mineko is actually female....well, moot point. Unless you choose to get another terrapin, such as when you relocate to Africa, then you might find out!

You can buy tanks pretty cheap second hand, it might be worth looking around a few junk shops or in the ads section of a local newspaper as they often have them. In the mean time get a large, deep, plastic tray or box, fill that with water and put anything that was in his tank in there, this will make him feel more at home and solve the problem for a little while. Don't get rid of him, it's not up to your husband what pets you keep.

Good news, on sunday, i told my hubby that we needed to do some shopping (children clothes) we went to a retail park. I knew there was a ppet at home shop there.
So i asked the kids "do you want to see the animals?" Of course we went, and we had a look at the tank. and.. my husband took one, and bought it!! (a basic one, is less than £30!)
SO Mineko is enjoying her new environment!

And , i think my hubbby understand now, that Minko is here to stay~! !!
