Moving is stressing me out
I'm moving to a new house. While I love the idea of getting to a place 3x as big as my tiny apartment, I am about to a breaking point in stress.
My husband is working full time and my job doesn't start until mid January so I said I would move stuff during the day.
The first 2 days this week my parents had just left town and I was really worn out from them being around and finals last week so I sort of took it easy. I took a load of stuff over to the house. It's 30 minutes each way, up to 1 1/2 hours one way if I hit traffic, which I have a few times.
The remaining 3 days this week I spent every minute from 9 am to 4 pm packing, doing laundry, moving, unpacking, putting away, etc. I have gotten nothing but stress from my husband about it. He walks in and says "what did you do today? because I don't notice anything different". Yesterday I had to go to my job which is 1 hour away (30 mins from the house) to do my drug screening. It took about an hour waiting in HR, then going over to first aid, then talking again to the HR people. So that's 3 hours right there. I stopped at the house on the way back and dropped off a full load of my SUV and put all of the items away in the correct place.
I arrived at the house yesterday, and the power was out! WTF! I find out that the landlord told my husband he was going to shut it off and it apparently just slipped his mind. So... our big stuff is being moved in on Tuesday and the power company won't turn on our power until Friday the 26th unless we pay $200 because of the holiday.
As I'm talking to the power company he keeps saying in the background "hand me the f***ing phone" and I was totally embarrassed. I couldn't wait to hang up because I was sure the lady on the other side thought I was an abused housewife or something. So when she said goodbye I hung up. He got so pissed he started yelling... at this point I started crying because I can't take it when someone yells at me. And then he goes on again about how nothing looks different in the apartment even though all of our bookcases are empty (ready for the movers), half of the clothes have been cleaned and moved, and all of our DVD's, games, and game consoles are packed up and gone. I have also scrubbed all the bathrooms and kitchen in the new house, disinfected the counters so they're ready for food, etc. and have almost finished lining all of the cupboards and shelves.
It's like he expects objects to just magically appear in the new house put away in a clean environment. These things take time and effort... and not having power makes it pretty difficult to do much of anything...

If it helps to think about it this way, you're in Texas and not Alaska. I have experienced the pains of moving so many times, and every time it is hugely stressful. My most recent move was probably both easiest and most stressful, as it was into residence at university with roommate I had never met before. Unfortunatly, it has been rough as they think of me as an antisocial housepet type thing, as I sit at my computer most days just fiddling with it, or doing an assignment at it, rather than being social. As for the power, that can be very painful. I don't know if you were in the area where the blackout thast pretty much covered all the northeastern states and southwestern Ontario and a lot of Quebec and that, but even a few days without power is hell. I just hope you get things sorted out, as it is not hard enough for a power compnay to flip a switch and expect someone to pay $200 for it, its just a holiday cash grab on their part. If it happened to my family, we would head to a relative's place for Christmas rather than have to sit through the troubles of that.
I hope you manage to get this sorted out quickly, and remember, at least you're not in Alaska.
Today I'm working again doing laundry and packing. It's 3:30 and I'm about to take a car load to the house and he's done nothing but play on the computer and watch TV all day.
I'm about ready to call the cable company and turn off the service...
