I just deleted a bunch of friends on facebook

Basically, I went through facebook deleting any friends on the (rather short) list and deleted anyone who wasn't single (although if it was something like a high school girl listed as "married" to another high school girl, I passed that one over)... Now I'm going through my AIM buddy list deleting people I know for a fact are taken.

I'm starting to be driven insane by all these taken people going off about their respective boyfriends and girlfriends, and I would want nothing more than for all that loneliness generated by all this to be completely shut out of my life. As I see it, there are two options to take:

1) Get a girlfriend. I only list this for completeness' sake... My chances of finding a woman that likes me is practically 0%, since there is no way any woman with any scrap of good judgement would even be interested in me...

2) Completely disassociate myself with all taken people under the age of 30. Those left would be the singles, so therefore I wouldn't feel as alone since all my friends would be in the same position as I am...

It's a good thing for you there's no shortage of women without a scrap of good judgment.

(That's not meant as a knock on women. There's plenty of guys with bad judgment, too.)

I don't see the problem with this strategy, unless the "taken" people you have deleted are real-life friends who could get offended and whose friendship you value.

Sometimes I had online "friends" who went on and on and on about their partners. Why talk to me in the first place? There is no point in them talking to me if their minds are obsessed with how they are missing their partner.

Not that these type of people were a majority by any means. The social exclusion many of them were experiencing meant that probably most of them were single anyway. It was because of their social exclusion that they wanted to make online friends in the first place.

Why'd you post about the same thing, in 2 different forums and in 2 different ways?

ToadOfSteel: amen brother! Since I finished high school last year I was fed up with the noise on Myspace and Facebook that I have basically stopped using them.

In my case I'd really want to do Option 1, but I had my mine on some one last year and let go. Until I start university in two months I'm left lamenting

I'm well into option 2, however, most people I know above my age happen to share my interests..
