issue with step brother
My step brother went overseas from last July to December (2008) whilst he was away he had access to the internet (facebook, email etc) at least a couple of times a week as people do these days. Anyway he didn't contact me at all during his 6 months away despite the fact I wrote to him I found that hurtful. What I found even more hurtful however was that in August 2008 I passed my driver licence test and recieved a probationary licence (for new drivers here) I was so excited and proud because for me being a non married a sexual aspie who had been previously told I had severe coordination issues and would never driove it was a a huge deal my biggest ever achievement. Yet Joe did not acknowledge it at all not even a short Facebook message or Email saying congrats thats great news. Everyone else here in Aus or overseas wrote me something no matter how short to say congrats. When he psased his probationary licence test in July 2007 I wrote him a specially decorated card saying congrats. Anyway last night I went out for dinner with him in part to tell him how it felt his attitude was that he "did the trip me me not you" and that he didn't acknowledge me passing because to him passng a driver licence is no big deal. I found that attitude very selfish and upsetting sure everyone is different but it was clear from how I wrote my email to him regarding the licence that it was a huge deal to me and that I was very excited.
Your brother isn't being very nice. I can't imagine why he should act like this, you haven't done anything wrong, have you? What he's doing seems very selfish and self-centered to me, and I can't get why he doesn't even make the effort of congratulating you with your achievement. I'd say you should cut off all contact with him for a while, or even longer, maybe that makes it understandeable for him what you feel like. Perhaps you can get in touch with him after a while, but I think cutting contact is a way to show him how much you disapprove his behavior. Even more, you have been a very good brother, it seems, since you gave attention to him and e-mailed him. You definetely don't diserve such a treatment. I just hope your step-brother wil understand soon what he's doing and why it's wrong and hurtful.

no i havent dont anything wrong to him at all, why would you think i had? I congratulate people on their achievements and stuff and like I said with him did so when he too passsed his test I wish I hadnt now. Ok so everyone is different but he knew how much it meant to me it was obvious as I talked about it a lot before he left (I was a few weeks from taking the test then).
Wow, he sounds like a jerk..no offense. But maybe he has issues of his own right now. I wouldn't take it too personally although I'd know how you feel. I have a brother who's done similar things like that. He's my oldest half brother and not only does he put most of us down but he's always what I call the one-upper which means everything's a competition to him.
I don't know but maybe he's going through issues of his own or maybe he doesn't realize what a challenge it might have been for you to pass that driver's test. I know many people in my family and friends who found it a challenge and don't have cooridination issues or ASD for that matter. Just keep up with the good work.
