I'm not sure where this belongs, but I'll put it here seeing as how people are ranting here. The mods can move it if it's not in the right place

Back in junior high, I had two really good friends, one of them was my ex. We pretty much had the sam interests until one day they started getting into the goth subculture. I thought it was kinda weird, so I stayed away. Almost overnight, my friends go from nice people to complete a**holes wrapped up in this BS angst. Worse yet, years later they still haven't outgrown it and they continue to act like dicks. And it isn't just them, every time I encounter a goth, they all act like that. Now, there's an even worse subculture of a subculture, ie. the vampires. Even bigger social rejects than the goths, they pretend to be monsters and they don't even see people as people but as a walking mass of blood. I know they aren't all violent, but that justification scares me.

well, this might offend some people, but that's freedom of speech. If you're a nice goth, I'm sorry.

Not all people who are into gothic culture are crude or strange. Some of us just happen to like the occasional bit of purple lipstick and Siouxsie and the Banshees!

I saw a goth guy once and like a true geek I walked up and asked him if he used that special detergent made for black clothes, since his jacket was so much darker than mine. He grinned and said no, his was just new. Then he added that it was dry clean only, and that he did know what detergent I was talking about but couldn't remember the name of it either.

He was wearing a black raincoat, so I was amused to learn it was dry clean only  I waited til I was on the bus I was waiting for before I started chuckling, though.

Look, I have nothing against goths who realize that not everyone is into the doom and gloom.

I don't dress goth, but I have the mindset of it. (I would dress in black but I don't want my parents to think I'm in a depressed state.)

To be goth isn't in adopting the attitude like those folks you mentioned have, but in being dark and not running from the concept of death. I feel more at home in a cemetary then at a picnic, because to me that represents temperal (though not spiritual) eternity, that this life will one day be over and our stuff will eventually pass into dust. Being goth is more about feeling at home in the shadows, then in bright sun. Goth accepts the darker things in life, it doesn't run from them or try to 'prettify' them.

I don't know if that is a accurate description, but I tried my best.

I know a teenage girl who's goth and loves vampires, and she's one of the sweetest kids ever. She's sort of bratty and likes to get her way, but she generally has a pleasant disposition and only feels sorry for herself an average amount.

As long as the subculture doesn't take over. And that goes for any subculture, be they metalheads, nerds, preps, you know.

haha "take over"

"revenge of the nerds"? :D:D:D

coming from norway, i can assure you, black dressed satanic looking people are usually way less satanic than they try to look, and most of them scatter if you stomp your foot angrily into the ground, and hiss at them

my funniest experience w a goth was, well two of them, one chick who i had a short lasting thing for (untill i realized shes messed in the head. turnoff.) anyway, in a "brown café" she brought her new bf, this long lanky goth, and he had that vampire attitude allready 6-7 years ago like "you... mortal. you are barely worthy of my presence."

she pushed us into a chess game, cus i am mediocre, and he turned out to be mediocre too. of course, words like "AWESOME" were used by the chick, but we're just mediocre :D
anyway, WITH his goth attitude, i of course beat him. and i dared make a smirk at him, a well deserved smirk, and the guy pulls a
"i havent slept well lately"

WTF :D i shoulda told him "dude, i was at the hospital yesterday, w a bullet in my lung" (i wasnt, but hey, a lame excuse is a lame excuse)

I meant take over your personality. Like, taking it too seriously and stuff.

I really need to learn to clarify more often.
