I'm due to meet a psychologist tomorrow (her speciality is asperger's) for diagnosis...

I'm terrified!

Last time I saw a psychiatrist, she told me I didn't have the syndrome, just low self-esteem.

It's taken a year and a disasterous relationship to work up the courage to see a counseller and get referred again and I'm afraid I'll get shot down again.

I've read everything I can about AS. It's the only thing that fits. If she turns around and tells me I'm normal, I don't know what I'll do....

It will suck. The TEACCH center said I didn't have it and I cried. Then, I went to an outside specialist MD who said I definitely had it, and not a mild case, but moderate.

I'm not saying, "shop around," but don't put yourself through hell. Ask about how much they know about AS before you even dignify them with your presence in their office. Have respect for yourself.

We know ourselves to well to get a professional opinion that counters what we intuitively know. If she does misdiagnose you, well you will survive. Just learn from it and find someone who really understands.

I'm worried I might end up being diagnosed NT. But my psychologist made me take one of those tests where you tick which boxes you agree with, and she said that judging by that test alone I am on the spectrum.

(On a random note, she was also amazed that I finished this 60 question test in under 5 minutes, while most people take about half an hour. Anybody else experience this??)
