I hate digital TV. The quality is so low, I can see where it goes from frame to frame using it decompression technique. Then there's the sound; there always seems to be the case of the sound disappearing when you want to hear something. In analogue TV, you just get static and partial sound.
Who in their right mind thought digital TV is better quality? It sucks!! !! Digital is the lesser quality. JPEG? Bring back BitMaP. MPEG? AVI - much better.
Granted, the reception is better, but it's not as great as people think it is.

Then on my digital set top box (yes, I DO have one) decides to remind me about a channel I set a reminder for, it comes up, and gives me the name of the channel, but not the number. On my last it gave me the ability to go to the channel NOW or cancel. This one. just sits there with one option "CANCEL" which is annoying. Why display for 30 seconds anyway, and with one option? I mean, come on.

Anyone else want to give their input?

The conspiracy theory take on digital tv is it's so THEY can totally deceive us, create events and visuals that don't actually exist.

I have really bad reception anyway, lots of hills and towering trees. I doubt if I'll even be able to get digital.

I agree that digital TV is all about control.
I don't know if it's still true but originally it was going to be illegal to fix or build your own digital TV, but with the old TV's you could buy the parts and there was just a warning on the back that it was dangerous to try ("no user serviceable parts").

Also, computers can have over 4 megapixels,
but HDTV has a maximum of only 1.5 megapixels.
Really, why do we need new TV's that isn't even as good as the internet?

There's never anything good on TV no matter how many channels you get.
There's always something good on the internet and many people can get most of it.

A screen resolution of 1920x1080 has 2 million pixels. Thats blu-ray (1080p) and true HDTV (1080i)

How many people do you know who have 1920x1080 monitors on their computers? I just got one

It has only been in the last year or two that people with high end computers
could show 1080p content on their computers. I have had a 1080i tv set since 2002.

The fact that we have crappy dtv in the US has nothing to do with the merits
of HDTV and more to do with politics and people buying crappy antennas.

Also OTA DTV is NOT compressed, if your watching compressed DTV you have cable or satellite.
If you have an LCD tv get an antenna and watch real HDTV which is gorgeous

I'd sooner look into better TV and turn my computer into HD Damned flicker does my nut on my small TV....

I've had digital TV some time I reckon its good, the picture I get is far better than I ever had from analogue, far more channels (aright most of them are s**t) and the LCD flat panel does not flicker.

When you know what to look for, it becomes obvious. The "superb" quality is transferred over to DVD videos too. The only trade-off on videos is when the tape on the cassette starts to tighten or just general wear and tear. Once the wear becomes evident, the quality of the DVD version starts to emerge.
Understanding how digital TV works and what it does, you can understand more about how it works and why analogue is the better quality

I'm in Australia. Does that mean Swedes are more deceived than Americans?

I have it in my room and its alright with me.

Most of my TV is via Hulu, which is badly compressed.


I hardly watch any TV on TV, but I've flipped through the channels sometimes. The '1080i' feed on the channel the TV is currently set at is SO compressed that regular analog would look much better. It's even far inferior to Hulu.


The reason for the switch was so that the government could sell the broadcast spectrum to cellphone providers and other companies. Analog TV is quite the bandwidth hog.
