Hi Night-

It can be scary. I am disabled by this. I get very depressed about it, but I also look at the good points about it. It's all you can do, really.

I am not a young person so I no longer fear I will not recover. Short of genetic engineering or a target drug, I know I won't. But now I am not told by shrinks to just TRY HARDER or that I am killing my parents or that I could get better if I just quit being a brat or a host of other insane madnesses that I am happy to leave behind.

There are many exciting things you can do between now and then. We are all so different. There are those way worse off than me and those who are way better off.

I wish you the best. It's hard path no matter, but we are also very very strong people and many even embrace it.

Night, can you do things to increase your IQ/? Did something happen to make it go down ?

I started to do Latin to make my brain work better after a very serious setback. Something to make it do things it did n't do before? THe first time this hit me I was 14. And I was by all degree of today's DXed LFA. They think it was a toxin, but I will never know.

When I have had traumas thoughout life, it has caused me to go back into it. I have taken about 3 or 4 really big hits that have left me in the LFA frozen mode.

But then I was able to get out to at least be back to being just Aut Disorder where I can talk and do stuff.

Languages for isntance really helped me to get my brain unstuck. It's very hard to learn Latin, but not too hard. But some people like math, puzzels, etc. THere is a book that explains this that I jsut saw on PBS called Change your Brain, CHange your Life.

I did not use this book, but the idea is that you can change your brain. You can do it, too! :-)

Don't give up. You can have a better life. And if you are not able, that is OK, too. You are still one of us and we like you no matter what.

That's very sad. But the brain has enormous powers to re-build itself. Have hope. Stop the drugs. (If you can.) Practice things to gain back your abilities. (Even doing crossword puzzles to get acquainted with words.)

How's your memory? If your memory is still intact, try learning a Rubik's cube. It really doesn't take smarts as much as memory, but it sure does help keep your mind active. This is a good beginner site. It includes a java applet which shows you how to do each part with a 3d rotatable cube. http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-f ... p023.shtml
If it just doesn't make sense, you could try this one http://lar5.com/cube/index.html I personally believe this one to be a little more intuitive, although the last layer is a little bit less straightforward.
I honestly believe that most people can learn to solve a Rubik's cube in under a day

I have felt this way at times. For me this often means my mind is working on the problem in the background.

I feel like my brain is blocking me from making further progress.

I think some things take longer then others to fix.

Maybe you need to come to some sort of epiphany about your problem. Maybe you just need time to sort through it all. Still another reason may be that you just need to take a step back and rest for a while.

Because sometimes the body makes us rest if we aren't willing to do it ourselves. This comes in all forms including feeling stuck.

Hope this helps.

my heart goes to all of you. i have so much respect for people who keep working hard on living their daily lives under a heavy burden of disease. do not give up. your life is worth it. you are worth a lot to other people even though you may not realize it at this time.

God bless you.
