Do you see no point in 1000+ songs on an Ipod?

Only 150?

Current count: 1413 songs (some of them full albums), 57 videos, 1840 pics

I have over 10,000 songs on my HD from around 300 bands and that takes more than 16GB(songs in WMA format at 96Kbps) of space. I like at least one song from every one of these bands, it doesn't take me long to fill up a 2GB player(I have a 2GB drive for the car), which holds around 600 songs.

80 songs at an average duration of 2.5 minutes each is only 3-4 hours of music. I have my 1GB player on at work for at least 6 hours a day 5 days a week. Even 150 songs would be too repetitive lasting about 6 hours. I find 300 songs(About 2 work days worth) on rotation to be satisfying, but eventually I'll get tired of songs from those 300 and start switching songs out for either new(To me) or old thus calling it a rotation. Having an MP3 player with enough room for thousands of songs would eliminate the need for rotating. Being limited to 300 of the same songs would drive me batty.

Unless you listen to music rarely, I don't see how anyone could stand only having 100 songs. What do you do? Throw old songs away when you get new ones never listening to them ever again or do you just listen to those same old songs for life?

That's roughly what I've got on my laptop, and it's taking up just under 30 gig. I do listen to them all. I have a little 2Gb player which is full, if I had a larger player I'd certainly copy everything from the HDD across.

...I like to have whole albums to hand rather than individual songs, because generally I listen to a whole album at a time. I like doing that, because my taste in music tends to shift around a lot between different songs on an album.

You song count goes up for podcasts too. Between that and songs, 1000 is not unusual.

I'm a big fan of music, and fancy a great variety of genres.

But there are nowhere near a 1000 songs that are good and that I have a reasonable chance of hearing within the next ten years. It takes very long to find a new song that is good to add. I find the idea of watching a movie on such a small device to be totally ridiculous, as well. (and I am actively boycotting Apple, so I just have a regular MP3 player)

My playlist currently boasts 73 songs.

At my peak, I had about 3000 CD's, so having 1000 songs is nothing. Plus, if I was limited to a few hundred songs, I'd have to keep switching around what I want to carry. I used to carry about 50 cd's in my car alone, so the larger the storage, the better.

Well, I suppose if someone to say they could not listen to 1000 songs at once they liked, but ...

i currently have 896 songs on my 80 GB ipod. i will most certainly reach past 1000. i listen to every song on my ipod(except for nico and the velvet underground. just bought the cd.) i may be taking be taking off some matchbox 20 soon, though. they're getting to be annoying. maybe meat loaf as well.

80 songs? you people are insane! go find some bands to fall in love with.

I have 1637 songs on my iPod. I have a lot of movie scores that I use when I'm daydreaming or writing. So, yeah, there's nothing wrong with having a bunch of songs.

I've always thought that I don't listen to as much music as other people. Maybe I'm wrong.

i have 5000++ on a 80GB Ipod. I listen to music during the commute to work, at work, while waiting at the grocery line, in bed etc etc. In a week, I listen to at least 500 tracks, depending on my work load. I know for some people 5000++ songs is excessive, but I find it oddly comforting to know that I have a copy of all the songs from the bands I love. Also, I just can't bear throwing away the other songs.
(I also have an extra hard drive for the stuff). I'm hopeless, I know. But my music makes everything so much bearable. & yes, I will continue to acquire more music.
Edit: as i write this, i'm listening to the said Ipod. My current obsession is Louis-Philippe, a late 80s crooner who works part time as BBC correspondent for football.

My mum's ipod has thousands. Though considering it includes the whole family plus every Harry Potter book on CD (with about 300 'songs' per book) I think I can understand why ^^;;

Personally I cannot understand having that many songs. At least, I cannot understand the people I know having so many, since they always say that they hate the songs they have on their ipod. It makes me wonder what the point of having them on there in the first place IS!

For the record, I have about 250 songs and 50 LBC podcasts on mine ;)

I have 357 songs and increasing on my Samsung P2, 192 photos amd no videos. DVD ripping software is annoying to use and there are virtually no video download services I know of not requiring a subscription.
