i like the TV show Quite Interesting or QI a lot & thought it would be fun to do something similar here on WP. without the middleman of questions. (though if people think of questions, complete with 'traps' that could be fun)
so here's a place to post any trivia you've amassed in your travels, the only real criteria being that it must be quite interesting, although it being true would probably help.
anyways, hope this is enjoyed :)
one from QI researchers..

There are about 10000000000000000000 insects in the world. One percent of this total are ants. Their biomass alone exceeds that of all the humans that have ever existed (approximately 90 billion). There are more insects in one square mile of empty field than there are people in the world. New beetles are discovered at a rate of one an hour. There are 350000 named beetles, plus perhaps eight million more as yet unnamed; if you lined up all the animal and plant species in a row, every fifth one would be a beetle.

That three-headed frog is creepy. 8O

Um...

In 2003, Thomas Newman was the film composer who earned the biggest amount of money from scoring only one film. He earned 340 million dollars for his "Finding Nemo" score.

John Debney, Don Davis and Christophe Beck earned more in total, but for more than one film. Don Davis got 419 million for scoring the Matrix sequels.

They get it from foraging for insects! =D

Dear AnnetaMarie, Here's an idea; you and I wil become very, very rich by starting an all-natural, environmentally safe bug-extermination company! We will put diapers on 50 ducks, turn them loose in a client's house over the weekends, and by Monday, no more bugs!

We are brilliant!

Just posted these links on GARTS but thought they'd probably be better off here.

The photo gallery on the first link is great.

A skeleton of Rhomaleosaurus victor, also known as Meyerasaurus (in honour of a German Palaeontologist called Hermann von Meyer). It would have lived roughly around 180 million years ago, in the early Jurassic era, and the skeleton is about 11 ft long.

It's one of the best preserved plesiosaur specimens ever found.

That's a great idea! But first we'll need to buy about three thousand ducky diapers, and enough duck food to last until the end of the world. Also, we need forty-eight ducks!

I think it has a greater effect if you're younger because your brain is still developing. I'm not sure, it probably still contains many nutrients that you'd need, but you're able to get them from other food, too. I guess...

Boshongo creation myth:
(Bantu tribe of Central Africa) In the beginning there was only darkness, water, and the great god Bumba. One day Bumba, in pain from a stomach ache, vomited up the sun. The sun dried up some of the water, leaving land. Still in pain, Bumba vomited up the moon, the stars, and then some animals: the leopard, the crocodile, the turtle, and, finally, some men, one of whom, Yoko Lima was white like Bumba.

Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams were born on the same day.

i read in today's newspaper, that these were the least stressful jobs in 2012-
*medical records technician
*jeweler
*hair stylist
*dressmaker/tailor
*medical lab tech
*audiologist
*precision assembler
*dietician
*furniture uphosterer
*electrical tech
these jobs were selected based on factors including deadline pressure, competitiveness, and physical danger. the most stressful job was adjudged [per the website "careercast.com"] to be "enlisted soldier" - i can vouch for that one. i really wish my army recruiter woulda let me sign up for med records tech, that sounds like a peachy job.
