My totem has always been the griffon. If it has to be an actual, alive-on-Earth-today animal, then a black panther.
Er ... actually, make that either a black panther or a white tiger. (Yes, there's a reason for the reconsideration. I spent several years studying bok fu, which is Shaolin white tiger style.)

If I were not given the choice but just transformed into the animal that suits me the best, then I'd say a brown rabbit with floppy ears.

If I had a choice, then a hippogryph. They can fly AND run like a horse, that would be so much fun :D

If it can only be a real animal, then some sort of parrot or eagle because they have long lives and can fly.
