This storm was completely underwhelming. Power outages and, if you live within like 5 miles of the ocean, flooding.

Yeeeeah...I'm not gonna say this was any worse than your average thunderstorm. Except maybe for the flooding, which affected the minority of people who were hit by this storm.

My very elderly grandfather lives right smack in the middle of where this hurricane is hitting. And if anything bad happens to him, I'll never forgive you for this comment.

Why? I wouldn't have caused it!

....Says the person who probably lives on the west coast.

New York/Philadelphia area resident here. I was in one of the worst hit areas. Trust me- the media are only focusing on a small portion of the total areas affected by this storm.

But the west coast does sound nice this time of year!

I just hope that my mum's relatives and the people in their area are doing okay.

I hope everybody is relatively okay. I can't imagine disruption like that!

Already a million plus without power.
Hardly an average thunderstorm.

You mean in an area populated by over 22 million people, 6.2 million lost power as of Halloween morning? Hmm, still not very overwhelming. Thunderstorms often cause outages for almost 100% of the population in the areas that they affect. ~20% isn't all that massive, New York City or not.

Seriously? This storm cost an estimated 20 billion in damages. Houses and buildings were destroyed- people DIED. How on earth is that not massive? My best friend's car got totaled and everything in her father's house was destroyed. My sister's basement got destroyed, she had to come stay with us because they've had no power, no WATER and no heat. Living like that for 4 days is in fact a big deal and 85% of Long Islanders did not have power, many still don't and don't have running water or heat. I don't even live near the shore and our area sustained a lot of damage from trees falling onto houses and cars. All the main roads here were closed and many still don't have working traffic lights, most of us haven't been able to go to work all week. And on what planet is the Philadelphia area one of the worst hit? It may not have been a big deal to YOU but that sure as hell doesn't mean it isn't a big deal to millions of people.

This was a horrible storm and it is rather unbelievable regarding all the devastation that resulted from it. I do hope that the northeast can rebuild and perhaps be better prepared for future destructive weather.

People die during ordinary thunderstorms (or thunderstorm lines), damage is caused, and contrary to the popular rumor that exists within the immediate NYC vicinity, there is in fact a world outside NYC. Flooding occurs in that outside world, as does damage that prevents people from getting to and from work, among other things. Fear not, for you will survive. The world is not at an end.

My friend in the Bronx filmed trying to get gas a few hours ago. Nothings open and some area's are still without power. He had to travel across the bridge to Westchester, wait in line for a hour and a half, and finally got some gas.

Did I hear correctly that New York City will go ahead with their annual running marathon?
Isn't that a bit insensitive to all the people struggling with damage to their homes ??
