Wait till my neighbors start pounding on the walls/ceiling. Turn the tv off. brush and floss my teeth. Shut the pc down. Make one last bathroom visit. Turn the livingroom close the lights off. Close the bedroom door, turn the night stand light on, read for a bit then go to sleep.

When feeling tired enough to sleep:

Turn off the computer and unplug the power board from power point.
Check the stove is off and cooled.
Check all power points are off (excluding the fish tank, refrigerator and alarm clock in bed room.
Check all windows and doors are closed and secured.
Turn on bed light, put on PJ's and put all dirty clothes in the washing machine.
Go to the loo, wash hands and clean teeth.
Go to the lounge, turn on television and DVD player.
Check all three alarm clocks are set on the coffee table.
Sleep on futon in front of the TV watching a DVD.

I can't stand lying in bed when I'm not ready to sleep so I usually wait until I get super tired before I go to bed. Usually this is 2am or later. I suck at going to bed early. Can't stand being in bed when I'm not tired. I have a horrible delayed sleep schedule sometimes and getting up in the morning is pure hell most of the time.

Consequently I don't have any routine I follow. If I have the energy to go through a routine I probably won't be tired enough to sleep. I need to be dead tired before I can go to bed. I usually just turn the lights out and try my hardest to get my clothes off before collapsing. I fall asleep in my clothes quite often though. I brush my teeth earlier in the evening since it doesn't happen if I wait until I'm ready to go to bed.

Brush my teeth (sometimes floss)
Wash my face
Change into my PJs
Check to leave the window in the living room ajar
Have a drink of water
Turn out all the lights except the bedside table light
Slip under the covers
Put in my earplugs
Turn out the bedside table light

I am amazed at the number of people that have said that they put in ear plugs.

I personally cannot use earplugs, I find that earplugs emphasize the internal noises within my body which makes it even more difficult to sleep. As it is without earplugs I can hear my own breaths, the blood rushing past my ears and the digestive sytem in my own body. With earplugs all of these noises plus more are emphasized. I sleep with the television on or DVD's on so that the noise coming from that is noisier than my own body.

Even when I use earphones with my MP3 player through the daytime in crowded shopping centres, I can still here my own body working. It is so loud and annoying. Oh well.

Does this happen for anyone else?
