There's a store at the mall called Spencers where I often check out and occasionally buy things from. And right now they have all of these autism-themed T-Shirts and I don't know how to feel about them. Offended, maybe? But you're not supposed to be offended by anything anymore.
They say things like "Please be patient, I have Autism" or "My B*ch got Autism" and "Autism is my superpower". These are all just based on blatant stereotypes and I know there are too many people who think it's a fun and quirky personality trait and not a disorder that can make your whole life a challenge while people treat you like garbage and think you're a sociopath or an emotionless robot.
I've never mentioned to anyone working at the store that I have ASD and that I find the shirts kind of nasty. I guess it wouldn't make a difference, anyway.
I think everyone's entitled to offended by literally anything.
The real question is whether or not others can relate, and in this case you can probably sell your offence to NTs, but the sort of autistics who are likely to buy the shirts won't care, and can probably
also sell their offence (over you being offended by their coping mechanism) to NTs.
The end result being NTs ducking out and leaving autistics to bicker with other autistics over whether or not we're allowed to make fun of (our own) autism.
Personally, the middle example is less funny than the other two examples. The first one is a good way to
have that discussion before you need to actually have it, and the last one is dumb but if reframing it as a superpower gets them through the day it's not the end of the world.
