I've thought to myself if past experiences with thunderstorms have left me with some kind of trauma because I can remember a few times when we had very intense storms, one of which was as a kid on holiday in menorca and there was constant lightning and thunder which as a result delayed our flight home. Another was a few years ago as an adult when there was a similar storm and there was a big flash of lightning which struck the roof of someone's shed setting it on fire because heard fire engines going down the road.

I wish I was like other people who just got through a storm without having the anxiety and tension I get when there is one. If it happens at night, I end up shutting the doors upstairs and turning on the lights in order to stop any flashes and in the past sometimes have listened to music to drown out the noise or recently listened to thunderstorms on YouTube as a way of trying to cope with it. As a kid and now as a adult I was fascinated with storms and natural disasters and bad weather but it is rather scary to experience it yourself than if you were watching on TV.

Yeah I know it can be a bit scary if you're caught in a storm
But I like them when I'm indoors

I don't think it's uncommon to be a bit afraid of thunderstorms

Fear is like a survival thing that's telling you to take cover

An old friend of mine told me that her uncle got struck by lightning 3 times but I'm a bit reluctant to believe her

My grandmother was always scared of thunderstorms and would sometimes sit in her large cupboard during a storm, where there were no windows. She didn't even have a traumatic experience with thunderstorms, she just didn't like it.

I used to have a phobia of snow, but that's a different thread.

I love a good thunderstorm. They used to make our shetland sheepdog, Jess into a quivering wreck though.

No I like them as long as I'm safely indoors. My cat isn't scared of them either, but the previous cat used to be so scared that he'd hide in the cupboard. He knew when there was going to be thunder and he'd get in the cupboard before it started. No idea how he knew.

The sudden loud thunderclaps make me jump but that's all part of the fun for me.

I'm a bit uneasy using electrical appliances though. I gather it's a bit risky.

It was thunder and lightning one night when I was cycling home from work and it was also snowing as well

I've never experienced anything like it before or since

It was beautiful and there was literally only me on the road as well

I must confess that I did say a prayer to Whom it may concern to get me home safely

These powerful forces can bring out the superstition in people. I told a joke at work once about how it would be if God was a woman, and I had to cycle home through a thunderstorm soon afterwards. I must confess I felt a bit worried that Big G might have a go at me for my cheek. Luckily for me he must have thought the joke was funny.

Absolutely beautiful
I'll probably never witness it again what with climate change and whatnot

I always worry that the power will go out. And not for a short time, either, but for hours or even longer while the food in my freeze thaws out and the milk goes sour. When we had Hurricane Fiona a few years back I had to throw away a lot of food that went to waste and it's made me nervous about buying any food that needs to be kept frozen, which I pretty much rely on. Food is expensive enough as it is.
