I don't think Russia is an odd obsession.

Mass murderers on the other hand ...

... Well, I think a lot of people are fascinated by mass murderers too.

I can't think of any odd obsessions I have.
I used to collect key-rings. That's about it.

Drawing on maps and making my own maps. Perhaps it's just me, but it doesn't seem like a normal interest. 8O :?

I don't know if this counts as an odd obsession, but I'm quite enthusiastic about old computer hardware. In fact, I have a system somewhere that goes back to 1995; I never throw out any hardware unless it is faulty. For a brief time I also used to collect two and three way adaptors. But as for the cultures that Iloverussia said about, Japan, maybe in my case. But Russia and China push me away - I possess a vigilant hatred of Communism, especially concerning what's happening in China at the moment.

What aspects of Russia do you find interesting in particular?
Is it Russia's history, or culture, or language, or landscape, or some combination of all of these things?

I suppose the three of them are major historical powers, and there are only so many of those to choose from.
But it's interesting that your doc chose those three, and not, say India or Egypt or Persia.
I am quite interested in Japan and China myself (in that order, probably). I am perhaps less interested in India. I'm not sure why. I just picture India as a bit too hot and dusty for my liking, while I picture China and Japan as having more temperate climates and being full of lush padi fields or lotus gardens - in the countryside at least.
