http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink ... nmark.html

"The strongly flavoured dark brown spread made from brewer's yeast has joined Rice Crispies, Shreddies, Horlicks and Ovaltine prohibited in Denmark under legislation forbidding the sale of food products with added vitamins as threat to public health.

".... if they want to take my Marmite off me they'll have to wrench it from my cold dead hands.""

What do you think of Marmite. Love it? Hate it? Indifferent? Never heard of it?

Seems like the Danish have gone quite illiberal about what people can eat over there the past couple of years. Add the gambling situation to that, too.

They should sell taster pots of things in shops. I'd be way more experimental.

It's a very salty, black substance that's usually spread on toast.

The marketing slogan is "Marmite - love it or hate it". It's almost always that stark.

I love it and eat it most days spread on hot buttered toast for breakfast.

Be warned though, if you do try it and little goes a very long way. Only put on a very thin layer, otherwise it tatse very strong and salty.

Does it mean that you just can't buy Marmite in Demark now or are you forbiden from even taking it in to the country now?

Marmite is also a really good way of getting B vitamins into your diet. I used to add it to stews and casseroles. It kind of beefs things up, without the actual beef. :) But yes, a little goes a long way.

I believe that marmite is some kind of waste substance from the brewing industry. Maybe it's possible to make a home made version.

Could this just be the most brilliant marketing strategy ever? Get banned in a small market to stir up curiosity in larger, more profitable markets.

I've never heard of the stuff and now I want to try it.

Ha, possibly.

Not sure how much interest Norwegians have in Marmite.
