Anyone here hate getting colds? It's SO uncomfortable having a blocked nose where you can't breathe properly and you feel like you're going to suffocate in bed, and it sometimes feels like somebody's shoved a thistle up your nose because you get a constant itch which makes you feel like you want to sneeze.....oh I just HATE getting colds. When I'm at work and somebody has a bad cold and is coughing and spluttering all over me all day, I feel on edge and worry that I'm going to get it.

If I'm going to get a virus, I'd rather get one that doesn't block your sinuses up. I have trouble with my ears and sinuses anyway, so I tend to suffer even more with a cold. Last year I got one where I ached all over, was freezing cold (in an unusual way), and I shaked so much and and I was very tired and my cheekbones constantly ached and my fingertips hurted when anything light touched them. I was also extremely hungry. But it didn't affect my nose, so I coped with it a bit better. Oh, and I had a splitting headache with it. I don't like getting ill at all, but I still rather the virus I got last year than having a blocked up nose.

My immune system is quite strong, and it's going through a very strong phase at the moment where I'm fighting off everything, but sooner or later I'm going to have to get a cold to build it back up again, and I know it's waiting for when I go on holiday.

Do you hate getting a cold?

Yes I dooooo, like you I'm scared of viruses so any sign of a cold or similar thing sends me round the bend. I had a cold last month, didn't have a runny nose but I had a rubbishy throat, felt lethargic with lowered appetite. Having a load of snot in my system makes me nauseous, I do have a bad habit of spitting in the street but I'm not going to leave all that rubbish there for the sake of properness!
I have a strong immune system but still have mysterious off days every couple of weeks, I've been a bit achy since yesterday and my stomach feels heavy and unsettled. This is what usually happens to me.

Having a cold is definitely on my list of things I dislike! I hate being fuzzy-headed and bunged up, especially when it means I can't sleep properly at night.

Worse than having a cold (which I hate too) is having a cold in the summer. It just happened to me 2 weeks ago. It's horrible!

I have a great home remidy for opening your sinuses. My midwife told me about it when I was pregnant with my second baby and had gotten sick.

Go to the store and buy a piece of whole ginger root. It's usually sold here in the produce section. Don't buy powdered ginger, etc. You want the whole piece of root. Bring it home and cut off about two inches of it. Don't peel it first. Wrap the rest of it up in either plastic wrap or wax paper and put it in the fridge. Do not use metal on it at all.

Take the piece you have cut off, and peel it. Then chop it up. It doesn't have to be too small or too big. As long as it's in little pieces it's fine. There is no wrong or right way to chop it, so however you do it will be fine. It's ok to use a metal knife for it, but you just can't store it in metal or use a metal bowl for it.

Put the chopped ginger in a glass or plastic mixing bowl. Something that will hold maybe two quarts. The size of bowl that you would mix up a cake in. Put the kettle on and when it boils, pour boiling water over the ginger, in the bowl. Fill the bowl about halfway up. Make sure it's on a table where you can sit at a chair comfortable by it. Lean over the boil of boiling water with ginger and put a towel over your head and the bowl. Breath the steam. Try to breath it in through your nose, but you may not be able to at first. Just keep your head over it, breathing it in until it cools and there isn't much steam coming off it anymore. Have some Kleenex or toilet paper by you to blow your nose during this, because it will usually open you up and make your nose run. You can blow your nose while you are doing it.

It works well for me and my kids and keeps us open for a few hours. You can do it every four or five hours if you want, and it works well for you. You can also alternate the ginger treatments with hot salt water. Use a half cup of regular salt in place of the ginger.

Good luck! Colds and sinuses suck! I live in Alabama and everybody has sinuses here.

I'd also suggest, if you want to go the allopathic route, a decongestant. NOT an antihistamine, because it dries you up worse.

Hope you feel better soon.

I hate them. When the stuff coming out of your nose feels like water, and you'd rather breather through your nose, but you can't. And how you can feel tired and like you can't do anything.

I hope not to get a cold anytime soon.

They are one of the most annoying things, colds. Sometimes I'll randomly realize that I don't have a cold, and cheer up.
Yawning for a long time can help you with your ears, like eating gum. And if it's a really bad one, you can always get some medication to treat the symptoms. And if a runny nose doesn't let me sleep at night, I take some nasal drops, but it's advised not to use them often.

I also hate having a cold. I have to be stuck at home and I can't do anything.

Colds are annoying, but I would rather have one of those than the stomach flu since I have a phobia of vomiting.

Yeah, me too. My phobia of vomiting is so intense that I haven't actually puked for 12 years. I've been on the verge of puking, but not actually puked. I've actually fighted off the sickness whenever I caught a tummy bug. I got the runs and all the other symptoms of a sick bug, and other people around me have puked, but I was so afraid of puking that I sweated it all out due to fear.

What I hate most is when people come over to my house or I come to their house, and then about 2 days later I find out that they had a tummy bug on the day I had seen them but they hadn't told me, because they know I don't like being sick. That's so stupid because they could just phone up and say they're not very well and so won't see me today. I won't be hurt, I'll actually be relieved and understanding.

With lots of things you are contagious before you even show symptoms. Flu, GI bugs, colds, even things like Chicken Pox, you can infect people hours or even days before you show the first symptom or know you are sick. That's why good handwiashing during cold and flu season is important (I don't do it, but I should) as well as hand sanitizer (I don't do that either). Your immune system should help you through those things and keep them from being too severe, unless you are immunosuppressed for some reason.

I'd really suggest you try the remidy I posted for you. It works.

It's 10 years for me, this morning I had a terrible stomach ache and I could feel all sorts of substances sitting in my chest but nothing actually risen higher than that. This has happened so many times it's not even funny (it wasn't in the first place), there have been numerous times I should have been sick but it just ended up as acid reflux or something. I don't know how I've managed it all this time.

Well, how ironic is this? I post here about how much I hate having a cold, and say that I hope not to get one anytime soon, and guess what happens?
