I was standing in line at the gas station yesterday to buy a coke and a pack of Twizzlers when the guy in line behind me taps me on the shoulder. I turn around and he says "You think the Gators are gonna win tomorrow?" I assume he was talking about the football team, and I assume they had a game today (or, tomorrow at that time). I said "I don't know, I don't watch football" then turned back toward the counter. He didn't say anything.

I hate that everyone assumes I like football simply because I am male. Football is boring. It's a good way to put myself to sleep. It amazes me how much importance everyone puts on it. People will memorize huge amounts of statistics. They know all the players on all the teams. It is literally an obsession. But why would so many people be obsessed with the same game? It's like group consciousness!

My neighbors must be watching said game right now. They are screaming "Go Gators! Woooo!" with shrill, straining voices. I really cannot understand why they are so excited. I've never been excited enough in my entire life to yell and carry on like that. I don't even yell on roller coasters. Would they be yelling if they were watching the game alone? I don't think so. It seems to be a kind of comradery-building function. After all, vocalization is communication, and communication requires both a sender and receiver.

Life would be easier if I liked football!

I can't stand that knowing the minutest details about football is somehow more socially acceptable than any of the stuff I'm into to that degree.

Seriously, say to somebody that you can remember the names of the 1988 Liverpool FC squad, and you're hailed as a fount of knowledge to be respected. But say that you can explain exactly why the M-16 assault rifle was an initial failure, and you're just given odd looks.

Sport bores me. I'd rather read a book. Even when I'm in the same room as my folks while we're watching a game (sometimes I'll try and stomach it, but I usually can manage only one half before the boredom takes over again), and their team scores, I feel stupid trying to express the same level of enthusiasm that they do.

My response to such inquiries is typically along the lines of, "There's a game this weekend?"

My thoughts exactly. It seems that NTs are also capable of obsession... it just so happens they all have the same few obsessions, thus it is socially acceptable to have the obsessions.

Here in Gainesville it is good to know when the UF Gators are having a home game. I happen to live very close to the university and on game days it becomes impossible to drive anywhere. I have to leave for work 45 minutes early. :x

Sport's boring for me as well, although I have gotten immersed in a game of cricket or two at the end of a one-dayer. I find it to be too boring otherwise for my tastes, not enough action going on, except for skating and snowboarding. This is probably a result of me playing too much Burnout and SSX, though!

Actually they have sex toys far better than blow up dolls now-days, and are about as fun as the real thing.

I don't like any sports.

None of that supporting team thing for me.

I just prefer to listen to the soccer talk.
