I'm a gun collector, and have owned firearms since I was 10 years old. I was taught gun safety and etiquette as soon as I was old enough to lift a gun; about age 2 or 3. My family believes in education & responsibility being the best preventive for accidents. That goes for firearms, dangerous tools, automobiles, and most anything that you can hurt yourself or someone else by mis-handling.

I'm still too young to own any, but I was taught how to handle them and use them safely. My real dad has five of them, three of which are rifles. My step-dad owns two rifles.

I've never had any problems despite the fact that I'm probably the geekiest bloke to buy one at the local sporting goods/gun dealer's stores. Personally, I think AS should not be considered a "mental illness," (you're not hearing voices or seeing things that aren't there) but rather a neurological difference.

I'm in.
I have a number of firearms. No sweat.
Been using them since I was a kid, and I actively train and maintain them. They're not an "in case of attack" button I ignore until I need them.

They're tools. Fun, cool, and interesting little tools.

That also provide interesting sensory input... 8O

My collection includes:

Norinco jw15 .22
Ruger 10-22
H&R ultra varmint .223
Mosin Nagant (according to the receiver stamps, it was built in 1938 and used as a training rifle in russia)
Weatherby Vanguard 30-06
Mossberg M88 12 gauge

Getting another mosin (PU version) soon and eventually want to get a Dragunov SVD

I'm gonna start collecting Russian guns. I already have the mosin and another on the way. Eventually gonna get the dragunov, SKS and an AK-47.

What? No Barrett M82? 8O I know you like your Russian firearms, but can't you spare a teeny bit of space in your heart (and gun safe) for the Barrett M82?

Send me a check so I can buy it and I'll gladly add it to my collection!

One more gun and my safe will be filled to capacity! I either need to take a plasma cutter and welder to it to expand it or get a larger safe.

I have another project that I want to do involving my mossberg 12 gauge.
I want to build a slug gun that will be accurate out to 200-300 yards!
I'm pretty much making a 12 gauge sniper rifle complete with scope, bipod and Barrett style muzzle brake!

I love that you specified you are talking about (Guns) in the topic header.
I suppose you did this to weed out the people who may have opinions on having arms either on fire or made of fire.

This is the kind of thoughtfulness and attention to synonyms that you can really only find in an AS forum. :D

Actually, I do have an opinion in regards to possessing arms made of fire. It sucks so terribly much. You can't even pet your cat without immolating it. :( Forget about typing as well. My poor keyboard smells like burning Tupperware... The only benefit is being able to heat up your lunch without a microwave.

I'm also too young to own any, but I plan on getting one as soon as I can.

My father is a police sergeant. As a child, I knew where the guns in the house were and that I was not to touch them. I was never afraid of them, though.

I turn 18 in a couple weeks. My dad is going to take me to the range to teach me how to shoot.

I have recently wondered if my enjoyment of firearms is related to Asperger's.
The meticulous attention to details, safety, maintenance, cleaning etc.
Setting on the range, focusing on the process of checking the target, beyond the target, front sight, breath control, safety off, squeeze, and follow through. A very linear process. Comfortable.
I have a couple of 12 Ga. Shotguns, a Marlin Model 60 .22cal, Springfield XD40, S&W M&P 9c, and a J frame S&W 38+p. My favorite though is my AR-15. S&W M&P15 lower that I built myself with a gas piston upper from Addax Tactical.
Honestly it has been one of the biggest factors for avoiding a professional diagnosis. I would HATE to lose any of my 2nd amendment rights to an unflattering doctors note.
NY makes it tough enough as it is.

It can be hard here to acquire firearms legally if you have certain mental conditions. I do tend to agree people with serious illness should not own guns.

I own a few. I actually know someone in a gun group who's daughter has AS and target shooting has helped her learn social skills and avoid meltdowns and quality father/daughter time.

Unfortunately there are plenty of doctors in America who would rather take her guns and let her melt down than accept the guns have done good for her.
