My youngest daughter (16) dyes her hair at least once a month, usually twice. She does it herself and she's been blonde, bright red, blue, green, purple, pink, black, brown, and combinations of several of those at once. She's been doing this for two years and is pretty much an expert at it.

My oldest daughter (19) is naturally blonde but has had highlights in her hair twice. Her roots are growing out and now she wants to go lighter blonde all over. So, she took her sister to the store and they bought bleach/dye/whatever else you use, I don't deal with that stuff. My younger daughter has put it on her and set the timer and she's waiting nervously to wash it out an style it.

I hope this turns out well. She's not as flexible about her hair as her sister is.

You're an awesome mom for letting your daughters dye their hair so many different colors. :) If my mom would permit it, I'd dye my hair carrot red, like a more toned-down Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp version). However, my mom has let me get highlights in my hair (I'm naturally blonde) and says that I can get red lowlights in my hair for my birthday in November.

If I had known as a teenager that you can dye your hair with Kool-Aid (or even food coloring) my life would have turned out very differently. My outsides would've matched up more with my insides.

My oldest is starting to get interested in stuff like that (finally!). I hope your oldest's hair adventure turns out well.

I've dyed my hair several colors, but I never go lighter. I'm allergic to bleach and my hair is always really dark.

I read about that kool-aid thing online and tried a lock of my hair and it didn't work.

I'd like to dye my hair in a way but it's just too expensive. My hair is so long and thick that I'd need so many bottles of dye, if the store even has enough out in the same brand and color to do it. Once I dyed my hair and it took 5 hair dyes to get it all. My hair is down to my waist.

In a way I'd like to dye it purple or blue. I've had a blonde, red, and black before but I haven't dyed it in a long time.

This is my sim. I wouldn't mind my hair being that color but probably a little lighter so it doesn't get mistaken for black.

I don't care what my kids do to their hair. It's just hair. My oldest son had spikey orange hair and spikey blue hair when he was 15. I thought it looked good. My oldest daughter doesn't go for the unnatural colors. She just likes highlights or possibly a lighter blonde. It turned out great for her. She loves it!

I also don't care about piercings, as long as they don't get their eyebrow pierced because that's entirely too gross. Oldest has his ears and his <ahem> pierced (I know about that one because he came home and cried and laid in the bed for a few days), oldest daughter has her ears done but she gauged them to 0's or maybe 00's for a while but they have closed back up to regular ear holes now. Youngest son has both ears an his lip pierced and has gauged them but let them go back to normal and youngest daughter has her tongue and about 4 holes in each ear and wants her nose done but REALLY wants her eyebrow done and the eyebrow is a NO! I'd never be able to look at her again, those bother me.

I've honestly never understood why some parents get upset over hair. It's just hair. It grows back. Piercings too, they close up. Now, I doubt I'd let one of mine get a tattoo under 16 or so and even then not in a place where it's obvious. But my youngest son's friend who is 16 has about three tats. One on his upper arm, one on his calf, and one on the inside of his forearm. I told him I thought the forearm one was a mistake. My son is gonna wait though, he's not stupid.

As for the dying colors, I remember back in the early 80's when punk was the thing and I had short, spikey Joan Jett mullet hair, and for a while I even had a faux hawk type deal. I used spray on colors which were popular then. Not just the Halloween kind they have now, they sold it year round back then. It would wash out after a couple of washings. My mother never tried to tell me what I could or couldn't do to my hair. The only thing she would say is "I wish you would keep it chin length with bangs because it frames your face"

I did make my girls wait until thy were 10 before their first haircuts though. I was a bit of a tyrant about that because my mother kept my hair short throughout my childhood and I had always wanted long hair. Both girls went and got it in a bob when I told them they could get it cut. And yes, I went with them and saved the ponytail that the girl cut off lol. I also saved my boys hair from their first haircuts.

I do dye mine, usually dark brown. When I tan, I dye it black because I tan so very dark so fast and it looks great that way. I've had mine blonde once, when I was 18. I looked like somebody put me in a washing machine with bleach and took all the color out of me all over. I was pale and washed out looking. Never again with the blonde. The wierdest one I have done is burgundy, which looked good and was fairly recent.

IdahoRose, I have to ask this. I think I saw your age as 21 and if thats correct I'm wondering how your mother has any say so over your hair, even if you live with her. What is the worst that she could do if you did dye it? She may not like it, but she won't love you any less. I've like all my youngest daughters stuff, except for the time she had the bangs white, the top section pink with blue tips and the entire under section black. I thought it was a bit much, but she liked it and that's what counts. She kept it about a month.

I know there are a bunch of different lighteners out there. I can ask my youngest daughter what you might could use if you want, or actually, better yet, ask a beautician. I bet she would know.

What about peroxide? When I was young, we used to put peroxide in a bottle and spray it on our hair when it was wet then blow dry it and it would lighten up. It's pretty much the same as Sun In.

ETA; I believe it is peroxide that lightens it, not bleach like you use in the laundry. I can go read the ingredients if you want. Or you can Google L'Oreal Feria and see whats in it. Thats what my daughter used. It's not double process. She just put it in dry hair, waited 25 minutes and washed it out. That was all there was to it.

I don't dye my hair, because personally I think any hair color other than black or dark brown looks unnatural on an Asian. I hate getting my hair cut too. I'm boyish enough already, and I don't want more people thinking I'm a lesbian.

This is what my hair looks like now. I had it trimmed a bit since but it's still not perfectly even, just a bit less ragged. I'd rather have what the long hair community calls "fairy tale ends" than have it perfectly straight across the bottom.

I'm not sure. I think I would look washed out if I went lighter.

If I change my mind, I might try the peroxide. I don't wanna go too light.

I've been dying mine for a while. I have two packs of natural black upstairs waiting to be put in, I'm just waiting till I get my hair cut. I really like black shades that aren't totally pitch black. If I can get a shade that is a brown/black I'm happy.

I can't go lighter, I'd have to wait for the dark dye to totally grow out. Peroxide/platinum blonde wouldn't look good on me as I have too muck pink tone in my skin (would just make my skin look even pinker). If I was to go any light shade it would be dark strawberry blonde with a copper tone.

Many people on this site, and even my own brother have told me that I don't always have to do what my mom says. But I like to, because I respect her wishes and my greatest fear is disappointing her or having her disapprove of something that I choose to do. I am a hardcore mommy's girl.

My Mum doesn't mind the fact I want to dye my hair purple as soon as I leave school (next summer), so after I leave and have had all the tests I still have to come back to school for, I want to dye it. Only problem is, my hair is brown and I want to dye it light purple, and my Mum says I'll have to prelighten it first. I also have a lot of hair. And she says my Dad (of all people) doesn't like that idea. She says I can do it anyway, despite this, because it's my hair.
