I've noticed that a lot of women like to fill their photo section with sexy selfies with the intention of getting compliments.

Others constantly do status updates about their latest trips or possession.

Still others brag about their kids.

I keep that off my page. I prefer to fill it with informative topics I find and share.

I feel that fb 'friends' ignore me, most of the time, yet expect me to be on-call, for their own problems.

How can I be a narcissist when I have no flaws?

I'm completely fascinated by the phenomenon of facebook, there is something so intrinsically human about what people do with their profiles on it. It gives people a place to express themselves to show how many friends they have, to align themselves with people of fellow interests. You can paint it in a negative light but really its just a new more conspicuous form of what neurotypicals have been doing since time imemorial.

I love looking at people's avatars and thinking what does this picture say about this person's background and personality why did they choose this image to represent themself.

Facebook is full of narcissists, and sycophantic followers of narcissists. It doesn't surprise me so much when I see the narcissists are obsessed with themselves and doing everything they can to garner attention for themselves. What's surprising to me is how many people will give it to them.

I started following some etsy sellers who also sell on FB, and it is just bizarre how some of them have cult followings in their FB groups. This one woman gives herself backhanded compliments for everything she makes, as if it was the hand of god working through her (and I think she's religious so she probably literally believes that), and posts pictures of the stuff and says who it is going to and then says how jealous she is that the customer is getting it and she can't keep it for herself. It comes across all nice and sweet but I'm just thinking, WHOA how arrogant is this?! But they all oooh and ahh...and then when the customer gets the package they will do an "unboxing" presentation so they can all fawn so more. It is sickening, I don't know whether to laugh or puke.

Then there are the ones who don't fill orders as they come, but instead just make things up in batches and build up a lot of hype ahead of time...so when they finally post it people will "race" for it and everything sells out in less than a minute. One also does auctions and people bid like 4-5x the normal price. They act like crackheads over stuff that looks pretty ordinary to me. I just don't think any of it would get this crazy if not for the social aspect of FB...yeah people get into bidding wars on ebay but this is different. This is much more about showing off to other people.

I stumbled into this strange world because I was looking for promo codes to save a few bucks on etsy...lol...and instead I'm totally turned off from buying some of these people now. But wow is it entertaining to watch some of this stuff.

But I dunno, the weirdest thing I've seen on FB was a gay friend posting several hours of video of himself putting on makeup for a drag show. I mean, put it on youtube for the other people who obsess over makeup and want tutorials...not on FB for family and friends who don't give a rats ass.

Some people feel lonely, making youtube videoes of themselves and watching youtube videoes of each other plugs a certain hole.

Within our life we have to do things to pass the time, I can't produce videoes on youtube and get a whole bunch of people watching me. What I talk about makes no sense to most people, but I'm not going to rubbish the people who can find that connection online. The internet is a great opportunity to understand the nt world, its color as well as its limitations.

I post occasional selfies, but usually something goofy or related to my special interest (photography) - like me holding a camera in front of my face. I suppose it's a bit narcissistic that I do share a lot of photos I've taken (mostly not of myself), whether it's amateur models, landscapes and other random subjects that interest me. I'd be lying if I said I don't enjoy getting "likes" for my work. I don't care if people "like" my profile photo.

There's a local photographer I know via Facebook and photo meet-up connections that many other photographers love. He's talented and knowledgeable, but the majority of his posts are humble-bragging, not actual photos. Lots of stuff like, "I'm humbled and honored to win an award as the best...." I just like to put my work out there for others to enjoy.

But as the OP mentioned, I also use Facebook to exchange information and discuss issues. If I mention a trip, it's generally only in the context of sharing photos from it - not to impress anyone as to my whereabouts.

No, I don't think so. Just like I post photographs, it's not necessarily narcissistic to share your artwork. Now, maybe if all your cartoons were depictions of yourself as a superhero... :P

I think narcissist has become a buzzword. Whenever people say it about random people, it seems like what they are really saying is "Anyone who does stuff I don't like or find annoying is a narcissist."

Yeah some people go overboard with sharing and selfies seem to be a trend. One of my aunts goes overboard with sharing about her vacations and her day outs and she is far from narcissist.

My aunt who is a "capital N" Narcissist is probably the only relative who doesn't go overboard on FB. For example, I have one relative who posted practically her entire life with her ex-husband. I remember I was called a narcissist for posting a picture of me winning an intermission contest at a hockey game and this label was slapped on me for it. WTF?

That proves my point about the word. Someone must not have liked you showing off your accomplishment. From what I see, everyone does it but it doesn't make them narcissists. That is like calling introverts autistic just because they get drained around other people and from socializing and also have to to be alone and may prefer their social circle online than in person. So they must have autism right?

I don't have a Facebook account and I don't feel left out for not having one.

Other than me, who cares if I had a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch anyhow... :D
