Oh come on, you have to admit that black metal's a little silly, right? Or maybe a lot silly? I admit I've had my thing with black metal in the 80's and 90's (I may even still have some Mercyful Fate and Ulver stashed away somewhere), and even I could admit then it was silly. Venom, who coined the term "black metal," didn't know what the their "evil" sounding stage names meant. Possessed admitted they were clueless about Satanism and the occult, even though they sang songs about it. And don't even get me started with "true Norwegian black metal." They're so Norwegian, they sing lyrics in English!! ! Not to mention all the idiocy about burning down churchs that also happened to be Norwegian cultural landmarks and embracing Nazism and calling people they didn't like "Jew dogs" (that was the thing that made me a non-fan. I'm Jewish, plus I have priniciples). Besides, most of those vocalists sound like Popeye, especially the guy from Immortal.

I never liked black-metal, but I have heard a few songs. I often wondered, how can they sing in that way? That sort of half-shout, half-hawking-up-phlegm? I'm surprised they don't:

1. End up screaming out the lungs (literally) and coughing them halfway across the stage.

2. Burst their vocal cords, causing extreme bleeding and cause them to drown in their own blood.

 I got an image there of this set of lungs soaring off the stage and landing on some poor audience member...what a souvenir!! Imagine, 'I am the biggest fan of such and such a band, hell, looky here, I even have his lung!'

I was an Alice Cooper fan from about 13. Does that count? :D I don't know; he was creepy, but also incredibly intelligent lyrics & creative work. Later on, was more into Talking Heads . . . the creativity again, I guess.

Yeah. Even Rob Halford shot his voice out,
and he was well-trained, and tried to be
a little careful.
