The songs we sang at camp and school:
Preschool: Mr. Sun, others
Kindergarten: several, I forget
Grade 1: Puff The Magic Dragon
Grade 2: Dayo, Clementine, How Many Candles and other Hanukkah songs
Grade 3: I Believe I Can Fly, Whenever I Feel Afraid
Elementary school choir, when I was in it: some French songs, Come Ye Maidens, Mrs. Dinosaur, Amazing Grace, many others.
The French immersion classes in my grade (I was in the English class, the ret*d class, so they never bothered to do that with us!) they played the ukelailes and sang songs, "something the Holy Bible say, something because of Christmas Day [or something]."
In religion class in grade 6 we sang to the tune of He Has The Whole World In His Hands "This is the Easter story... yes it is... this is the Easter story... yes it is... this is the Easter story... yes it is... this is the Easter tale retold. Judas betrayed Jesus, what a shame..."
At our grade 6 graduation we sang the Graduation Song by Vitamin C and played it on the ukelailes, and also Learn Everything (lyrics starting with "open the window, keep out the cobwebs..."
After-school daycare: We Wish You A Merry Christmas
Grade 7 (tunes we played): Fleur de Lotus, others
Grade 8 (tunes we played): Shoo Fly, others
Kamp Kanawana: "We are table number 1, number 1, number 1! We are table number one and who the heck are YOU?" and the people at table 1 would point to the people at another table, who would shout the same thing only with "table number two" instead of "table number 1". We sang O Canada on Canada Day of course.
Camp Amy Molson: this song we sang before starting to eat breakfast, I forget what it was... there was one before starting to each lunch "Little frolley, you're the one... you make camp life so much fun... little frolley, I'm awfully fond of you!" The one before supper I forget, but it had "something, something and alligator pie" in it. Then of course "I don't know but it's been told, [the junior/senior boys/girls... since we were junior girls we said we were made of gold and senior boys were made of lead], --are made of gold. I don't know but it's been said, -- are made of lead! Stand ff (?), one-two... stand off, three, four... turn around and sing it on time... four, three, two, one..." or something like that. We also sang it at Kanawana actually. Then the thing about the worm in the soda straw and "the other day I met a bear", this cheer we sang that went "something the best, swimming, diving, we're the leaders of the rest... we will fight fight fight for Amy Molson, something victory something one two three..." the Ocean Ship Titanic, Heinz goat or something, 2nd Story Window,
Day camp: "I Lost My Baby", French songs, one about seeing things in the sky, others too
Quebec Lodge Camp: To the tune of Rock Around The Clock "God is great, God is good, let us thank him foer this food, we're gonna thank him in the morning and thank him at night... thank him because he's out of sight, amen amen amen amen amen (that's good, let's sing it again!)" We also had other "thank God for our food" songs, one sung to the tune of Edelweiss... then in the chapel we sang Lean on Me, Something with "Shut the door, keep out the devil, shut the door, keep the devil outsid-ide, shut the door, keep out the Devil, light a candle, everything is alright." We sang Lord I Wish Your Name On High, United We Stand but it wasn't the traditional, well-known United We Stand, it was a different song that went "United we stand. (United we sta-and!) Together we sing your praises! We stand tall hand in hand (we stand tall hand in ha-and!) and more, and some "whaaaa-oooo"s. Also "We are waaaaalking in the light of God, we are walking in the light of God!" And a song that went "If anybody asks you who I am, who I am, who I am, if anybody asks you who I am, tell them I'm a child of God." In the mess hall we had some sayings/songs we sang/said, one for late people sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne: "You're late, you're late, you're very late, you're very, very late... we wish for you to now explain the-e reason why you're late!" Then "So-and-so, strong and able, get your elbows off the table, this is not a horses' stable, but a first class dining table!"
Girl guides: "On my honor I will try, there's a duty to be done, and I say aya, there's a reason here and a reason above... my honor is to try and my duty is to love. No one needs to know my name, if I hurt someone then I'm to blame..."
And many more.
List yours!
