What I really want is a pet skunk. In most states, they're illegal, but this is one of the few they're legal in. And, of course, they're descented.

So I was wondering if anyone has any experience with pet skunks or knows of anyone that has one. Would they be good with cats and small dogs and vice versa? How long do they usually live? Are they destructive? If you know any information at all, it would be greatly appreciated!

Pet skunks are actually really good pets, they deskunkatize them haha, that sounds funny, anyways, they are loyal and dont cause much mess. I knew a lady who had pet skunks, really weird to walk into a house and see a skunk just chilling on the couch, like whoa haha.

lol That would be a pretty funny sight! I think this would be a good house for a pet skunk as well. My pets are small enough so they'd most likely get along, it can sleep in the powder room during the night, and we've already got all the non-accessable areas for the dogs blocked off.

I told my mom about wanting a pet skunk. She said no at first, but she's actually pretty open to the idea, since she's never had one bad experience with skunks. Plus we know of a place just a few miles from here where we could buy one around Easter or so. Hopefully I'm able to get one! I want a skunk so badly!

A lady that lives near me has a pet skunk. Its cool to see - but they aren't as soft as they look. She said it is very sweet.

That all said - I am in the process of tryng to get my dog clean today. He chased a skunk under a car this morning and got sprayed - full on in the face. Poor guy. Still trying to find that 'magic mixture' that works to get rid of the smell!!

If they have their scent glands removed, they can be good pets. They can be litterbox trained like cats.

I saw one on TV that lived with a family in the UK. IIRC he (the skunk) could be quite aggressive towards the man in the house, only had any affection for the woman and was indifferent to almost anyone else. But after a few sessions with the pet psychologist, everything worked out just fine :)

I think that it would be neat, to have a pet skunk.

I agree, it would be so cool to have a pet skunk! All of my friends think it'd be awesome as well. :)

The thing my mom's mainly concerned about right now is the fact we already have six pets. We are planning on giving away one of the cats and selling one of the dogs though (That dog will be hard to sell since he has so many problems.). So hopefully the skunk would get along with the remaining pets.

It sounds like they'd make really great pets though! I mainly wonder how obediant they are. Like if they'd do tricks and would be able to expect them to behave nicely. At least it sounds like they're really sweet. :)

So does anyone else know anything about pet skunks? Like how long they live?

Apparently, the usual lifespan for a pet skunk is about ten years, but they can make 15.

There's quite a good site at http://www.skunkhaven.net/SkunkIntro.htm with lots of information. :D

It would be like having a ferret the size of a cat. I have also heard that they make good pets.

Thanks so much for the link, Deefor4! :)

I really hope once the time comes around, my mom will end up letting me get one. I want one so badly and there's no reason for us not to have one!
