I think I figured it out. It's a reference from the RTS game Starcraft. I remember in that game you had to collect minerals to buy stuff. They're supposed to be like the Zerg worker drones from Starcraft, only they don't have the two large claws in front. I guess they haven't evolved strong claws to break off yummy chunks of blue rock candy so they have to settle for some stale Dorito crumbs instead.
I wonder if you could actually use stale Dorito crumbs as a building material? I mean, if you can use funny blue rock candy that grows out of the ground to build junk you should be able to use stale Dorito crumbs just as well.
Actually I think it was funnier to me not knowing it was a video game reference. It's so much more random and absurd when you have no idea what it's about.
