I find that fascinating and frightening. I'd go in to look around for a bit but the idea of sleeping in there all night scares me. I'd be thinking the glass would break and my room would be flooded and I'd die.

I don't think so. That's my fricking dream house you're looking at. If I do the calculations right, it'll hold up. :)

Is that real or fake?

I think it's real. Actually I just discovered that they never began construction of the Hydropolis underwater hotel in the United Arab Emirates. I think this is actually a picture of a room from the Poseidon underwater hotel in Fiji. Here's some more pictures.

Poseidon underwater hotel pictures

They also have a website.

http://www.poseidonresorts.com/

i do not think it has been built yet. all the photo's i saw on their site were computer generated, and it is still in the planning phase i believe.

i tried to make a reservation, but there was no interactivity in the reservation tab, so i am sure it is a still in the planning stage.

i will post some shots in a few minutes of a type abode that i would very much like to live in sporadically....

the boeing 727 jetliner is outdated and no one wants them any more. they are considered "crass" by the corporate community, and they are not fuel efficient compared to modern jets, so commercial airlines would not consider them. they are also extremely loud and violate noise limits of many cities.

last year i browsed the web (out of curiosity and not need) for corporate 727 jets, and i found many for sale that were less than $1,000,000. they were airworthy but no one wanted them so demand was zero. one 727 i saw was only $270,000, and they were desperate to sell it because it would only yield $100,000 as scrap metal.

i have always dreamed of owning a jet that i could sleep in.

when i was a child, i imagined making money by doing cargo runs to various cities in my jet, and sleeping in it when i was not flying. i also imagined (furtively) that i could have 4 computers checking each others data validity in flight, so that the autopilot could be completely trusted, and going to bed during a flight with no one in the cockpit (i know that is the realm of fantasy, but fantasy is what i thought of as i was going to sleep in my land bound bed).

i imagined snuggling into my blankets and looking out of the window at the clouds far below as i sailed at cruising altitude for hours, and i imagined a chime sounding when i had to get up and go to the cockpit and steward the decent toward the destination airport.

i always went to sleep when i was a child with that scenario in mind.

here is a 727 jet which is not wanted by anyone who is serious

here is a bedroom in that jet.

i can not post more pics in this post because of the smileys data thing so i will make another post and hope i am not flagged as a spammer.

and finally (i might be flagged as a spammer after this) here is the dining room of that jet,

Image

i know that it completely impractical, but to get all that for less than $275,000 is absurd.

it is airworthy and in good mechanical condition, but can not land at most airports due to noise pollution, and i will still dream about it none the less. especially the bedroom.

whatever. i will post a picture more in the spirit of this thread now as long as i am not banned as a spam bot.

Somewhat less salubrious surroundings:

The 727 concept was interesting. The centerline line thrust allowed, in effect, a shorter wing( less runway) for shorter runways. And It had the fastest top speed, or at least it was--- well over 600mph.

I heard in the days before any fuel crunch, regulations; they'd use this feature to make up time.

In essence, it found obsolescence due to maintenance costs of the having more than 2 engines per given load.

They are very loud on the outside, but inside, I thought they were no more decibel-ie than a 737, or DC-9.

@ tequila..
why did you post that? is it where you live?
if not then i can not see why you posted it. it is not an atrocious picture, but it is just a picture of median squalor.

did you post it because you think i am gloating? i could never afford the jet i showed. it is just a dream.

i hope you do not see me as a snob. but if you do then i guess that is the way the cookie crumbles.

It's supposed to be a bad hotel room. I'm not gloating or anything. And I wish I could enjoy such surroundings too. :)

why would you post a picture of bad hotel room that was not spectacularly bad? it was not very visually interesting and does not qualify as a momentous image. was it a hotel room you stayed in or was it a response to the perceived snobbish opulence that the 727 interior exuded?

actually i have dug a trench that i will not get out of if i do not just ignore this line of discussion so no need to reply.

i am swamped when i interact with those above me.

You're always welcome to post images here and you certainly won't be regarded as a spambot.

All that luxury in a whole 727 for less than $275,000 is absurd - yet still interesting.
