I felt bad because I said I would eat and really enjoy it because my mother had made the pie this morning and for some reason she had all kinds of problems. It was as if the pie gods or whatever were watching from above and said "she can't make coconut cream pie for Thanksgiving, it must be apple or pumpkin pie", and today at breakfast she told us the long story of how she got the ingredients mixed up and she baked two pie crusts because she wanted to make butterscotch pie for my grandmother but the crust was too dark and it fell apart or something, and she forgot to put egg yolks in the filling and that might be why it wasn't set. She assumed it would because it thickened while she was cooking it on the stove. My mom thinks she was too distracted because she was trying to get the turkey ready as well, but she normally makes really good pie and lately every little thing makes me worry she's in the early stages of dementia because my grandfather has it.
