Agreed. It's really unpleasant to be on the receiving end of someone's power trip, it's just a form of bullying.

I don't think we have broth in Britain. It's all called soup. Maybe Scots have broth?

I think of soup as a starter, or a soothing thing for sore throats and when you're ill. That's usually the time I eat soups.

Broth is thinner than soup.

Chicken broth is ...chicken flavored water. No solid bits of chicken or vegetables.

You cook things in "broth" that you wouldnt cook in "soup".

No. I know the context so I don't need links or reminders, but thanks!

Wai's avatar mentions testicles.

It doesn't get much more complicated than that.

No conspiracies are involved and not everything is a riddle.

I don't get why some people seem obsessed by a notion that others are out to get them.

What's thick creamy soup without bits in then? That's the soup I like: thick and creamy with no bits in. e.g. Cream of Mushroom, Cream of Chicken.

I do not get why there are no schematics available for 30-year old technology that was last made 20 years ago.

Profit. As in, it wasn't profitable to make such things commercially or publicly available at the time and no-one bothered to keep records.

On my left is a DX-390 SW receiver.  I found PDFs of the User and Service manuals on-line after a few minutes of searching.  I also found several articles regarding modifications that could be made to it.

On my right is a PRO-2039 VHF/UHF scanner for which I have only the User manual and two possible mod procedures.  The schematics are nowhere to be found.

Both were sold by the same company around 1994 -- a company which went out of brick-and-mortar business over a decade ago.

In front of me is a CX-2158 Digital Clock made in the last decade by a company that is still in business, but that has no facility for downloading any manuals at all.  So, I wrote my own User Manual and am working on a method to disable lead-zero blanking in its 24-hour mode.

All I want is to be able to service and modify equipment that I own, without some over-eager salesperson trying to sell me a "gooder-better" model with features I neither need nor want.

But that seems too much to expect.
