A good strong cup of tea

It's been mashing in the pot for a good 15 minutes

Mashed tea? I haven't tried that!

I do like a cup of english breakfast, one of those rare compilations that most suppliers (PG, Typhoo, whatever) get right (and I can live without Darjeeling, Earl Grey, and the like, though Assam does make a nice change, now and again...). So why then, in other countries, when seeking a cuppa, is one faced with a choice of jasmine, peach etc? Why, too, do they look at me daft when I ask if they have any tea flavoured tea?

As for other kinds, I’ve never tried Lobsang Rampa (but I’ve had the misfortune to smell it!) but, unlike my mother, a tea addict, I am partial to Rooiboos.

So which is best? Well, if it is still available, then I’d go for (and this is just between you and me, OK? I wouldn’t want them to be swamped) the in house EB blend by a little cafe called Ty Hwnt I’r bont, in Llanrwst, North Wales. Funnily enough, it’s not their biggest draw; most people go there for their cream scones (not to be missed)!

My mother, one of those millions who got hooked on tea at an early age (but strangely, didn’t “move up” to heroin) and really struggled to get through the day without her regular fix, tried them all, and eventually settled for Yorkshire, being best value.

What an inspiring label; doesn’t it just conjure up images of dusky Indian peasants toiling under the torrid sun of the Dales?
