I'm an Astonomy dude. D:

Will you not take me to your leader? (oh right, the OP is the leader). :)

Anyways, I have some interest in Astrology but Astronomy is my stronger point.

Apx: No thoughts on astrology/extrasolar planets? I've been wondering about that for a while now. IMHO we live in the most exciting time for astronomy ever - just 20 years ago we knew of just 8 planets, now we know of ~2000

This thread is now about the Geek zodiac

It was foolish of them to base it on the Chinese horoscope. Which is actualyl pretty dumb and much dumber than the month-based one, I mean really. Who really wants to think that he has the same personality as everybody that was born the same year as him? That's dumb.

Plus I got a wizard instead of a robot, that alone proves the whole thing wrong.

astrology is an interesting thing to learn while eating spicy biscuits.

i have learned some ways to perceive the universe that my inspection of "astrology" helped me to learn.

astrological philosophy is to me a way of framing an idea of how things happen in the universe.

there is earth, air, fire and water in the astrological concept.

"earth" is the substance that is stable and manifest, and comprises all that we see and touch.

"air" is the potential for possibilities of evolution to occur. "air" is the space that must exist to accommodate any manifestation.

"fire" is the energy that is required to create matter, but it is very raw and unbound without some supernatural law that guides it into a manifestation. "fire" is "energy"

"water" is a fluid semblance of inevitability that all flotsam in the river of life must obey.
water is the flow that is time that allows for continuity and an avenue for permutation and change.

on top of those notions can be superimposed a grid of affectivity that is described as cardinal and fixed and mutable. cardinal means inspirational, and fixed means preservative and mutable means destructive.

so if you superimpose the "cardinal and fixed and mutable" idea on top of the "earth air fire and water " idea, you get something you can think about for a long time without hitting any brick walls.

but to predict what will happen in the microcosms of peoples lives using any methodology is insane.
astrology is an interesting exercise but is is only an exercise in how to break down the reality of what you see if you are weak of native understanding.

Everything but Earth is made up of either Hydrogen or Oxygen (Fire and Water are so closely related it's weird).

Earth is carbon, right? One of the hardest elements to create in the universe?

i would not think you are correct but i am possibly wrong.

earth is "substance".
water is "manner"
fire is "energy"
and
air is "possibility"

they fit together in my head cosily.
especially with the overlay of "creation... preservation... and destruction".

but i am not a superstitious person and i can not explain my being using that mechanism.
i do not need to know who i am in order to be who i am anyway.

whatever. good night.

I'm not saying you're wrong...your ways are certainly interesting...I just find it easier to view it from an Astonomers POV. :P

Good Night, fine sir.

i thought this thread was about "astrology". astronomically unlikely is it that astrology could be considered adjacent to in validity, and augmentative of astronomy.

i was only talking about the mental exercise of disseminating reality into the segments proposed by the astrological premise that i posted my previous post with reference to.

"fine" indeed.

Oh alright, fair enough, I guess Astonomy doesn't fit here.

That's one confusing sentence but I think I understood that. :)
