In Poland, they massively buy soap and noodles, which at least makes some sense.

No, no, you've got it all wrong. You eat the soap to kill the virus and use the noodles to make chicken soup for the people who have blown their colons wrong side out that way.

Jokes aside for the briefest moment, I think they are buying T.P. because they are worried about getting diarrhea from the virus. You can get diarrhea from a lot of things but there are, of course, substitutes.

Isn't that what a bidet is for? Image

Honestly, I think you're much more likely to get diarrhea (or any other form of digestive upset) from worrying about COVID-19 than from the virus itself. In all the news I've heard about it, I've never heard any digestive symptoms mentioned, but anxiety, stress, etc. can often upset the digestive system.

I don't think anyone is worried about digestive symptoms. They're worried they'll be put on lockdown or quarantine and be unable to get any. It would be problematic in a place like Italy where everything is locked down, because supplies can't even be delivered.

Yeah, I think TP is just something a lot of people put on their "emergency supplies" list. But why there isn't a run on canned, boxed, and preserved foods, I don't know. I don't know that even the people who stockpile TP can explain why they prioritize that over other things.

^ Actually, people are hoarding canned food and other food that doesn't go bad fast. Or at least they're doing it here; I fear the stores will be out of tuna and I can't make any tuna pizza when I want to. :|

Personally, I'd rather go without food for a few days than without TP. I'm not hoarding it, but it will really be frustrating when and if I need to get more and there's none to be found. At least with food there are many different types to choose from but with TP it's basically all the same, except for Ezra's which is reportedly lined with gold.

In my country production lines are coming to a halt, imports are nil. No schools or uni no trains cos all the inspectors have Corona. The airforce will eventually ensure there is enough staple food but many products will inevitably be unavailable. Public transport is next to go and like Italy we have been told only to leave the house when essential. It is estimated that up to 80% will be infected and they are trying to avoid mass infection simultaneously because there are not enough respirators or hospital beds. Under 60's need not worry the virus is not severe, kids seem not to suffer but spread it like wildfire. The virus causes severe fibrosis of the lungs and without respirators the over sixties cannot often beat the virus. Grandchildren forbidden from visiting their grandparents because they are carriers (children). :( I am in the high risk population, but when my time comes I will go quietly. :) I recommend hoarding canned goods, foreign brands that you like, rice, pasta. Dried tomatoes and fruit, oats and cereal. Take plenty of reading material. Stock up on medication. Don't panic but be prepared because it hasn't even really begun yet. Stay safe

Stay safe, Teach!
From the family lore after wars and disasters: make sure you've stacked enough salt. It's not essential enough to be provided by emergency services but life without it is problematic.

Yep. Stay safe, Teach.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

And for all the others who are, or will be, going through this.

I bought 4 kilos of salt, no idea why :D
Thank you, we will all get through this together!! !

An important thing we have been told is to keep your distance from everyone don't shake hands, avoid restaurants and don't stay in stores for more than ten minutes. Money is a big culprit for passing on viruses, pay with a credit card and wipe it with alcohol. please take it very seriously, Trump isn't is seems.

Apparently it's good to gargle salt water if you start to get a sore throat. So that salt might come in useful ;)
