True… the average pleb here (like me) is descended from Edward III. Which makes me more royal than the Saxe-Coburgs… as they are all German. The last real king we had here was Richard III.

I think Richard III was still a Plantagenet? i.e. French. Not sure.

Yes, as I said in an earlier comment:

The royal family, as well as some members of the public, are directly related to William the Conqueror, and probably Alfred the Great, but it's harder to find genuine records before the Norman Conquest. And thanks to Henry VIII, there are no bones of Alfred around anymore!

Descendants of William I include Alexander Armstrong, the TV presenter. Matthew Pinsent, the Olympic athlete.

Other royal descendants include Danny Dyer, actor, descendant of Edward III. Josh Widdecombe, comedian, descendant of Henry VIII.

It is generally thought that most native English (i.e. white, Anglo Saxon) people are descended from Edward III. This is because the Black Death decimated the population when he ruled, so the royal family had a greater chance of surviving. And, Edward III put it about a bit.

A historian has calculated this probability.

Richard III was technically the last king of the Plantagenet dynasty, but he was the last king of the House of York… which was more notable. Say anything else around here and you’ll get scragged.

I think you're right about Charles, although I think Anne would be a kind of Elizabeth I character, she is the toughest.

Andrew is a paedophile. There would be a revolt if he was made king. Prince William doesn't talk to him and he won't be included in the royal family now Charles is king.[/quote]

Regarding Anne and Andrew.

Princess Anne was never on the best terms with QEII. While Elizabeth was responsible and dutiful, Anne was very much a socialite. I recall early photos of her swanning around London in an open top with some male friend, going to the horse races or sitting in a swish bar with a cigarette. Perhaps it reflects the current relationship between William and Harry, Harry was very much a playboy prior to his current relationship. William probably was always disappointed with Harry's antics. Elizabeth never connected with her sister who was mentally prepared to be a royal but not one who expected to hold titles.

Andrew lived a similar life as a playboy. His subsequent revelations with his friendship with Epstein really shouldn't have surprised anyone. Queen Victoria's eldest (who would be king) was similarly narcissistic/entitled/uncaring and bedded so many women that it was difficult to keep track. Like many rock stars today probably erred in bedding a girl of 16/17 and probably didn't know or if he did probably didn't care.

Don't forget Harry the Nazi and that Halloween costume that he once wore. I'm not even going to post pictures.

I don't think Princess Anne did any of that - it sounds like you're referring to Princess Margaret, who was also very close to Elizabeth.

Anne, meanwhile was made Princess Royal years ago and apparently it was the Queen's wish that she take on many responsibilities with the funeral - thus far the coffin has gone nowhere without Anne being in close contact at all times.
She's also one of the more hard working family members, having (I read recently) 300+ engagements over a year.

 No-one cares any more, CR. It was a costume worn at a private party seventeen years ago and he's apologized.

But don't be coy; here's what it looked like - a kid in a fancy dress outfit, and typical tittle-tattle for a rag like The Sun.
And, oh the horror - he's smoking too! *clutches pearls*

I've gotten Ann mixed up with Margaret before. I remember during the Charles and Diana wedding, getting confused as to who was who between Elizabeth, Margaret and Anne. Before the wedding I don't think I knew much of anything about the royal family.

I agree with you Cornflake. Princess Anne is a trooper, doing her duty steadfastly. I think her ex husband might have been a playboy, which is probably why she divorced him.

I live in Yorkshire.

I was born in Cheshire, but I still believe that Richard III was our last great king.
