UK or England thread?
Did another Shop & Scan today and it nearly went perfectly , I had a random scanning of bags by a member of staff which understandable as it's my second time using it ( also had wine so my age had to be verified ). The machine jammed my receipt and needed assistance but it definitely sped up my shopping experience and limited my human interaction
so it's a gold star from me ![]()

I don't use scan but I shop in little bits every day and use the self-service. All the different s-s tills have personalities.
Some count the bag as weight so you have to weigh it first while others (same shop, Tesco) don't. One hates bread
(Tesco again)and another won't scan bananas (Sainsburys).

I prefer machines but the local Sainsbury's one insists you put everything in the bagging area til you're done.
Which is the opposite of the slow witted human at Iceland who gets cross if you take any time at all in bagging up your items.
I wouldn't mind humans if the ones in the supermarket seemed intelligent but they're really dense. They say 'do you want a receipt', I say 'no', they give me it anyway... It isn't a rhetorical question as they don't give other people them if they say no. I don't get why I'd want a receipt to say I spent a pound or even any price under £5 on something I'm going to eat.
Also, they print these receipts out regardless so their bins are full of them. Rather than just not printing one. I presume the initial intent was to save paper but they don't.
I like machines best because humans are stupid. I wasn't stupid when I worked retail. I worked retail and we didn't have electric tills, we did everything in our heads or used a calculator or a pen and paper. I did that, often in my head, and I made conversation about the book, despite being aspie. The only human connection I get from Iceland is some guy staring at me as I have to pack my bags...
Also self serve is great in WH Smith (obviously not a supermarket but still). If I see something I want afterwards I go and get it. It's a machine so it doesn't judge me for taking multiple trips to the check out. 1 I have social anxiety 2 I'm aspie and not sure if this is regular behaviour or not and 3 I did use to sort of judge the people who came in the book shop I worked and find a book, buy the book, then back to the shelves again. I never thought 'maybe they didn't spot it til they were on their way out'.
My CBT therapist was getting me to use manned tills and making me join the longest line. I did it for a while and I can do it but much prefer automation , it's less taxing.
One of the worst experiences I had with a till operator was a clash of OCD's
I layed out all my shopping on the conveyor belt in the order I wanted and in the order I wanted to pack my bags ( stickler for routine - go figure ). The clerk then proceeded to scan thing in the order she felt was right and leant over my food squashing things to get the items she thought went together - I lost my s**t internally ( if it was possible for steam to come out of my ears it would have) but just made dead pan sarcastic comments like "Sorry , didn't realise there was specific order you had to scan things" , "My bad , didn't know you had to scan 'x' before 'y'" , needless to say I avoided her like the plague next time. ![]()

That sounds so irritating.
Do you actually have OCD? My stepdad (like I keep saying, probably Aspie) does a weekly shop and he does it in an order: tinned items, freezer/fridge items, perishable goods. It's useful.
Either OCD and or an aspie based rule around this stuff would make it absolutely aggravating when someone went against the system.
The Iceland guy never allows anyone to take any time over bagging. An old woman had a weekly shop. Didn't offer to help her. Didn't allow her to take her time as she was an old person and it was a lot of stuff. Like your woman, shoved it all and squashed it.
I know it's minimum wage but I worked my retail job for free and I didn't act this way. They shouldn't employ people who do in that sort of a role. They probably get through the interview because they're NT but that's all they 'offer', and if it isn't accompanied by friendly chat anyway.
I never know how to talk to people in queues. Whether I ought to or not. I stick by the rule of 'only talk to people when it's necessary' but this little kid bought a giant monkey toy which was bigger than him and this woman turned around to me and expected a chat about it... neither of us knew him... I just said 'that's bigger than him' which is true. Not sure what I should have said but that seemed to pass muster.
By the way I know I'm assuming people are 'Rangers' fans who might not be and I know that's rude. So sorry if I offended anyone yesterday with my assumptions. I wouldn't go to a match if it was 750 tickets available because it's highly unlikely you'll get them. They should have put it on at Celtic park, beamed it back through, made a profit out of it. Half way between a live match and watching in a pub, people would have gone.
I can't find my glasses online but they're basically giant black glasses. I can't read iPhones and iPads in them and they do cut out a lot of light but my eyes still manage to give me a headache if I'm in light. What I'm glad of is that my eyes haven't hurt in a year now, since I've had them, despite moving to a neighbourhood of idiots who think Christmas is all about flashing lights.

I have a polite request if it is possible please.
I find your posts interesting but I have trouble reading long paragraphs.
Is there any chance you could put a few more gaps or spaces between lines.
Just a few extra ones would do - not asking you to write the same as me as this would be highly cheeky.
What glasses do you use by the way?
Not sure what they're called. I tried googling 'polaroid' glasses as that was what the shop told me they were but it came up with some very different ones to mine.
I have regular tinted ones for normal days in normal/not overly lit places. Days in spring/autumn (outside of bonfire night).
Then dark and big ones for summer/Christmas time/overly lit places.

except I'm a youngish woman and they have prescription in them too and mine have more overhanging than this, less gaps. These are just as dark as mine are and made of a similar material and fairly big to give the idea. I'm trying...
I should really go to the opticians but I had social anxiety for years and was scared to leave the house.
I think it would help if I put returns between big paragraphs. I try to paragraph for sense but this doesn't always work into short paragraphs so might be confusing still. I find this gap works when I read other people's long paragraphs.
Like this.
I'm not used to writing prose tbh.

I'm not diagnosed with OCD , but my assessor said I have the OCD elements of ASD but after decades of going unchecked it can develop into a separate condition. I think I have a pure O version ( Schiz OCD - it's got a lot better once I realised I had it but it's still a problem ) - no compulsions except for mental ones and also Just Right OCD but I can overcome the need to do things certain ways but I just implode internally ( but it passes quite quickly ).
^ This is just my self diagnosis so I could just be a nutter

^My original diagnosis (many years ago, pre ASD diag) was obsessive rather than obsessive compulsive. I gave up
trying to explain the dif to people and now say OCD.
Ferris, is your CBT with someone trained in autism? have you read Trogluddite's thread on CBT?

Thank you for leaving some gaps, it certainly made it easier to read.
I am still trying different glasses to see if there are others which help ease my irlens.
My neighbours have those awful lights up which set off my headaches and the local council has put up the most nasty bright white light right outside my house - it is like a stadium light but ice white making things look ghostlike.

Where is Mr Trogs thread Fluffy?
Can you post a link please if it is easy enough.

I was only allowed 6 sessions via the NHS but I think he found me so unusual we had around 18 , I didn't have my diagnosis when I started but I told him I was getting one , he said he knew some things about autism ( that'll be a no then
Trog's CBT thread rings a bell , I'll have a search.

Our council is good in a way. You're not allowed to have light shining into another person's bedroom.
However my stepdad said 'that's only if the bedroom is upstairs and it's reasonable'.
So basically you're not allowed to shine light into posh NT's bedrooms but mine is ok...
I'm ok now though. I've got a blackout blind, stuck down with duct tape and the outside of the window is bordered up.
So I see their stupid all year round fairy lights and their flashing lights when I enter the property but not any other time.
When I lived at our old house there was a street lamp straight outside my bedroom
I'm not sure if I have Irlen's or not. Sometimes if it makes sense, I muddle up one line for the next one along. But I'm dyspraxic so it could be that.
If the line after it doesn't make sense, I know I've done that.

Ha, ha, my bedroom is very gloomy and just how I like it.
Even my front room is darkened and I have to close the curtains on a sunny day most days.
My poor guest have to put up with my difficulties and some accommodate me in their own homes by closing their curtains.
