That did come out pretty neat, it's interesting to me that you could still get 4 colors from what I've seen out of that in different shades of black and grey. But that's just me trying to play art critic.

I like that ASCII art (despite being rendered as an image)!
If you have a decently sized flash drive (1 GB is a bit strained, 2 GB will do, but at least 4 is recommended), you can install Ubuntu to it with the flash drive distro installer. Otherwise, you can download the image and have it installed by Wubi (in the Windows way) to a file on your Windows drive/partition. This has the advantage of being easy to uninstall (Programs & Features > Wubi .... > Change/Remove). After this, you will be able to boot to Ubuntu. If you are using a laptop and the screen seems to be black for a long time, then try increasing the brightness setting in case Ubuntu started with the backlight off. With either method, make sure the computer does not get reset too often.
In Ubuntu, you can install GIMP by using a terminal window and entering the following (including the new lines):
sudo apt-get install gimp
<<insert root password>>
<<installation progress>>
And follow that with the following:
sudo apt-get install aalib*
<<insert root password>>
<<installation progress>>
* This assumes that the package is named aalib
Or, of course, you could use the package manager, but I generally use it only as a catalogue of sorts.
