My computer says it will take 19 hours to download Ubuntu. 8O

Well, it makes sense, since it's an entire operating system...

OK, before you finish that download:

* If your computer is 64-bit and has >2GB memory, did you pick the x86_64 release? (If not, cancel and pick the 64-bit release)
* Did you use the Universal USB Installer if you want a flash drive (which is better than CD because of rewritability)? (If not, it should be fine unless you used a browser with poor download resumption)
* Are you viewing movies AND downloading Ubuntu? (If yes, this does destroy your bandwidth)
* Was the 19hr estimate only in the first few seconds or minutes? (If not, then my little Elbereth and I send our hopes that the estimate decreased)

* Well, dang. I should've picked 64-bit then!
* Where do I get the Universal USB Installer? [ignorance] [want]
* Nope.
* Also nope. :(

And now, it says 10 minutes left! Should have told me earlier! :x
[:lol:]

* For non-3D engineering/design (yes, they do have plenty of stuffs [sic]!) applications, 32 is fine, but try to switch to 64 (especially before using Ubuntu!)
* Just search Universal USB Installer and you should find it. It has a built-in downloader that can be paused and can install other distros as well.
* Good.
* 19 hours in about one and a half! That lying browser!

Perhaps you could try using Ubuntu through a Wubi (uninstallable through Windows) installation (and make sure you allocate enough space for the packages!). Then, boot in Ubuntu and select all the packages you want and let it download and install overnight. Remember that even 8 GB sounds large until you begin the !!PaCkAgE fReNzY!!.

(If you install WINE first, you might be able to install Portal onto the Ubuntu virtual disk and play while waiting despite the hour!)

:lol: If I were a computer expert like you, I'd do that. But I'm not...
Meanwhile, I was working on the schematic (in red) for this gryphon's wing:

Oh look! Ubuntu has finished downloading! :D

Once you get all that done, you can access Windows files (even hidden/locked ones! :twisted: ) by going to /host. This will let you see your files, other users' files (unless there is no other user, of course), and basically everything in existence. I would try not to change /host too much, though, because of the problems Windows has with odd files (even files are not exceptions).

OK, now the extraction is taking a long time. :(

I do hope no errors will occur. Did you install it to a flash drive or as Wubi?

On another note (not an accidental one this time), I like how that gryphon is developing!

...

Fancy a Battle for Wesnoth tournament this week-end? You can play Drakes and I can play Knalgans! :lol:

I tried extracting the downloaded file onto my USB drive, but there was a Wubi file in it that can only be used on a CD. So now I'm downloading the file again along with the Universal USB installer. I have to go to sleep, though, but glad you like tha gryphon WIP!

Well, WinZip popped up and messed everything up, but I'm on the right track now.

Now that I'm done taking my shower, g'night for real!
