Along with what others have said, I also think that in the past schools did not focus enough on danger closer to home. They focused more on “stranger danger” when the reality is that kids are WAY more likely to be abused by people much closer to home - family, neighbors, friends, or leaders/acquaintances from church.
There was a lack of awareness and, also, it’s not an easy thing to talk about for a few reasons.
