Friend and I were fully infuriated by the ending of a horror movie

When people say nasty things, do they regret it when they're older?

I've said nasty things in the past that I regret having said now.

Have you?

Were they nasty? Are you capable of being nasty?

I made a huge mistake last night reading old posts of a member that I missed.

I once shouted out that my Grade 7 music teacher was Gay. I got sick of my classmates asking me who I had a crush on. I was feeling insecure.

And they said nasty things to you? And you're wondering if they regret that now?

I'm wondering that. I'm sure they regret it.

It's always insecurity. I did something similar at school. There was a kid in my year who came out, or was outed, I can't remember, but everyone knew he was gay. Once when I walked past him in the hall I said really loudly "There goes, Xxxx. He's gay!"

I did it to make the people I was with laugh (insecurity), which they did, but I really regret doing that to him. That kid must have had a really hard time, I don't remember there being any other out boys around, this was mid-90s so it was still a bit risky to be out. Now I'm just in awe of how brave he was to be out at that time. It makes me sad to think I contributed to the difficulties he must have had, just so I could get a cheap laugh. I'd be mortified if I had to meet him now.

It took me years to forgive myself for what I said about my music teacher.

I think (I hope) that these things are more important to us than they are to the people we did them to. I hope those people we were mean to don't even remember us.

I remember it, some 30+ years after it happened, and that incident has been a guiding light ever since, not to allow my insecurities to make me behave in ways that are hurtful to others. That's not the only incident I can think of where I did that.

"I'll be back in a minute. Or two minutes. Or maybe a minute and a half. I'll say a minute thirty seconds, plus or minus thirty seconds. With 95% certainty. Not counting the time I just spent talking."

Actual thing I said today
