Yeah, that's the biggest downside to sign languages from a language learner's perspective, it's mostly only useful with talking to people in person (or on a video chat), since there are only a handful of movies, no literature of course, and you can't type in it.

But sign languages are really cool, the signing mode and the grammar of them are both very intriguing to me.
Several handfuls worth.

Learning languages is my hobby and "aspie obsession", so I've studied many for the fun of it. But I'm studying Basque right now (as showcased in my signature) and Latin seriously, meaning I want to be fluent in them both. Hope you have fun with ASL, and hope that you'll get into learning other languages.

There are several other aspies here that love languages too.
