Turned on the clothes dryer the other day and it had a burning smell, as I've had it a long time I'm going to buy a new one tomorrow as it's not worth getting it fixed.

I recently had a washer die, theres lots to choose from but with home appliances the mid range Chinese models are good value.
Also, depending on the store they might charge a little bit extra to take the old one away. Mine charged $15 extra which is good value considering taking it to the dump and the fuel I'd use turns out to be more.

They rig them so they're not worth fixing these days. And the new ones probably don't work without a smartphone and a subscription fee. Might as well use the laundrette, and that's saying something.

I just learned that when tomato's were first introduced to the Italians, they weren't keen on them. In fact, they were believed to be poisonous. Now tomato is a staple of Italian cuisine. It's motivating to think just because someone doesn't like you at first, with time they can grow to appreciate you.

That also happened in the UK I think. When they first arrived, people feared they were toxic, or Satanic or something equally absurd. Some bloke ate a big bowlful of them to show he wasn't scared of them, and lived to tell the tale.

But the twist is that tomatoes really are satanic. They're the most evil food in the world, and the only way to stop them is to purée them into perfectly smooth sauce before you eat them. I was the only person ever to realize this, because, as you said, it's an utterly absurd idea.

(I'm joking. I hate tomatoes and this is a joke I regularly make about them)

I thought it was carrots. It was enough to nail Blackadder in an episode in the first series called The Witchsmeller Pursuivant. He had been overheard asking his horse if it would like a carrot, and he went and admitted it in court. The Witchsmeller declared carrots to be the devil's favourite food, and read aloud from the 5th Appendage To The Apocrypher "Beware the fruit of the carrot tree" and something about it being satanic, and then he shut the book before anybody else got the chance to check what it said. Baldrick argued that carrots don't grow on trees, to which the Witchsmeller said "Oh yes, and how did you come to know so much about carrots?" Blackadder was found guilty and sentenced to be burned alive.

Funny the things you remember. It was a parody of the Salem witch trials, the stupidity and viciousness of the law, and the credulity of the public.
