Starting tomorrow my 25-day apprenticeship. It'll be my first time at actual workplace, I wonder how it goes.

Open mic tonight, and I'm doing one song with a tricky guitar bit in it that I can easily fluff if I'm nervous, and one song with lyrics I can easily forget if I'm nervous. But you have to push the envelope with music. Don't want to end up like Max Bygraves.

I was spoiled for choice really, so I chose Max. Perry Como was another one. But Val Doonican did one I might cover one day, only I don't know its title. The chorus ends with the lines "I never knew just what it was, and I guess I never will." It's about a weird toy. Otherwise he's so bloody bland I could put my foot through his face.

Anyway I shouldn't worry. I've got a much stronger voice than that lot. Not as good as Steve Marriot's used to be, but close. Doesn't do me any favours round here though, they're all into easy listening so I have to compromise, but one of them did compliment my high notes on Danny Boy, and said I was a good tenor. I'm not, I'm a high baritone, but I don't mind.

Thanks for the good wishes 8)

The BBC 'Old Grey Whistle Test' DVD set has a Val Doonican number on it!

I don't know if the Chinese lady on the phone said my meal will be here in 25, 35 or 45 minutes

It wasn't her accent it was my attention span

It was something 5 anyway

Only a tiny bit so far. I'll probably get more wired as the event approaches, then there'll be all that social interaction, and then I'll be up there with all those faces staring at me. I was barely shaking last time, but it was enough to take the edge off my guitar playing and I thought my voice wasn't quite as good either. Still, I'm a perfectionist, and they aren't.

Yep - Val Doonican & Charlie McCoy – Stone Fox Chase
Don't know that one. Sounds like it might be vaguely good. Maybe he was only a mush merchant in his early days. Scott Walker was like that, though he always did have a good voice.
