I was a bit disappointed in the films but I'd already got the story from the book and the BBC radio version, which I thought were better. Briefly, Bilbo kept a magic ring that among other things stopped him ageing, but it gradually drained away his happiness and made him all weary and maudlin. Didn't help much when he gave it back either.

OTOH it could be that they've got a portrait of themselves in the attic. :wink:

Usually I only cry when I'm singing sad or beautiful songs these days. It plays hell with the vocal delivery and I always have to train myself not to or I'd only be able to sing jolly songs.

Oh it's the conclave thing

They said this morning on the news that this is a unique thing but I'm sure there's been about 4 in my lifetime

I do wish they wouldn't use such dramatic language sometimes
